Robin Walker's Simple Speed Test:
Sat, 7 Jul 2007 22:16:58 UTC
1st 128K took 47 ms = 2788766 Bytes/sec = approx 23203 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 46 ms = 2849391 Bytes/sec = approx 23707 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 63 ms = 2080508 Bytes/sec = approx 17310 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 47 ms = 2788766 Bytes/sec = approx 23203 kbits/sec

So which is correct?
I have had my uprgrade to 20Mbit, one report almost 5Mbit the other 20Mbit.
General web browsing seems slower and web downloads never go above 500K (I had 1.25MB per sec back on 10Mbit line).

ntl: 250 modem if it helps.

Any ideas?

Try and download this and see what you get:

Any chance you may be being traffic shaped? EG have you downloaded more than 3GB after 4pm today? If so, thats to blame. If not, check your signal levels are within tolerance.

Failing that, the UBR is probably oversubscribed.

Also remember that speedtest.net is never a good place to do a test. Try downloading a file from the VM game files site with multiple connections and see what you get from there.

The only speed test i trust is how fast i download from the newsgroups.

I fully agree.The only way.

If you haven't got newsgroups then the file from the Virgin Network is the next best thing IMO.

I see your point, downloading the file I get 2.25 MB/Sec.
That was 0800 Sunday morning though, will try evening time to and see what I get.
