Hi guys,

I'm on the verge of singing upto Virgin Media.

I just want to know...is the modem that comes with the package wireless or cable only?

Cheers,

Dave.

you will be givena modem only, its an ambit 255 with ethernet connection

if you want wireless then you wil lneed to buy a wireless cable router

Wired, you can connect it to a wireless router easily though.

Nice one cheers guys.

Got a trendnet wireless modem although it aint a wireless cable one (if theres a difference?) so ill give that a try.

How many ethernet slots does the ambit 255 have? Cant find much info about it on Google.

Thanks.

An ADSL based modem / router will not work with cable. You need a router that has a RJ45 (ethernet) WAN side port.

The cable modem will support only the one connected device (computer or router). If you need more than one device connected, or need wireless, you must attach a suitable cable compatible wireless router using ethernet between modem and router. In the first instance though get the connection set up and vberified, wired (ethernet) between a single computer and modem, then expand your network.

Most of the wireless routers will also have a few ethernet ports for direct connection.

This Linksys (http://www.ebuyer.com:80/UK/product/63763) one seems to do the job without probs. (I used to have a belkin, but that seemed to need re-booting all the time).

Will quite happilly cope with a 20Mb connection at full throttle, when VM can provide that, of course ;)

Oh yeah - whichever wireless router you get, make sure you get one of these for it, too (https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm) - just to be on the safe side..
