America is set for 100mb within a few years. When do you think we'll hit triple figure broadband speed? Next month? Four years from now? You decide (assume).

At this rate, never.

Atleast not for another 3-4 years I should think.

Id be more interested in seeing the upload speeds increasing rather than superfast downloads. Yes as more and more multimedia streaming comes about, we'll have the potential to ditch our current TV systems and just watch via broadband instead, but meanwhile I'd like to be able to put the content up at a reasonable speed.

I voted 2010. Media will become more demanding in terms of bandwidth usage...I'm not quite sure to the extent that it requires 100mb, but people like getting more than enough.

Couldn't agree with you more. Upload speeds, when you think about it, are drastic in comparison with dl speeds. Sharing information requires upload, and after all, Sharing is what the net's about, isn't it?

Found this LINK (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/02/10/ntl_trial/)
We know 50mb was trialed in Ashford, dont know if this is still ongoing though.

EDIT**

I voted for after 2010, due to the fact that its only 2 1\2 years away and I really cant see VM having a viable, stable, across the board 100mb service for at least 7-10 years.
For a company to offer this sort of product the expense and outlay (monitary and hardware) would far exceed income from revenue received at the current rate (I would assume)
Also the take up would have to be guaranteed high so that the company would recoup the outlay quickly.

2015 would be more likely

"When do you think we'll hit triple figure broadband speed?"

About the same time the BBC stop showing repeats.

At the rate at which NTL and Virgin have been increasing the advertised speeds, I'd say given half the chance, they'd be advertising it by Christmas. Of course, the question is whether the network will be capable of the advertised speeds.

I'd rather have a 20Mb connection that's stable, with a nice 10Mb upload speed or something, than 100Mb down.

Wasn't the question though was it :bump:

I will say after 2010 myself. I don't think Cable providors will be going much faster until the phone line based competition can produce high speeds without too much degredation over distance that we have now. Which, will be a long time before that is addressed. I forsee the current situation remaining as it is for sevreal years.

I voted next year, as the poll wasn't clear if it would be a rolled out or tested service.

TW was originally planning to have 50mb lines with the new docsis system by late 2008.

But with VM, and perhaps that yank company buying them out, it may be a long long time to even see 50mb.
