Hi all,
I recently downgraded my broadband service from 20mb to 4mb (xl to l I think). But my speed seems to be slower than I thought it should be.
I logged onto the modem and got these results....
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 20480000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 768000
Maximum Upstream Channel Burst : 1600
Maximum Number of CPEs : 1
Modem Capability : Concatenation Enabled, Fragametation Enabled, PHS Disabled
From the above, does that mean I am running on 2mb rather than 4mb?
Thanks

You've still got the 20 meg config file. (2048 followed 4 zero's) I recently downgraded from 10 meg to 2meg and took over a week for the modem config to get reset.

see my clarification above. but basically
2mg = 2048 000
20meg = 20480 000

lol lol... the only reason I questioned the speed was because I used Robin Walkers speed test and it came back with 2mb.... I also checked on an ADSL speed tester which said the same!

Is it only the config in the modem that determines the speed of the connection? Or is speed determined by the setting in the equipment at the other end of the line?
I wondering if it is possible for the modem config to be at a higher speed, but you won't get it because the config in the VM end is set at a lower speed?
NB the only equipment I've heard of mentioned in these forum is UBR but I imagine there must be other kit.
This is a 4meg config file
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 4096000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 400000
I too downgraded from 20meg as it was rubbish !
