For those who missed episode one, here is a brief synopsis:
Because of a house move I left my 4Mb broadband behind and went "up to 8Mb ADSL from VM". But for various reasons, including bad home wiring, I get a max of 1Mb. But for many months the 4pm-midnight slot has really suffered sometimes down at 24Kb (remember the first generation modems??).
So I had a rant here - the replies said it probably wasn't shaping, but simple contention.
But all this week my speed has been a rock soild 1Mb 24x7 (hope I'm not talking too soon), so maybe the contention was from a few local "shape shifters" who are now being down-sized letting little old me get on with my life without too much frustration.

I've been around long enough to remember what an improvement my first 96K modem was, so I can chunter along at 1Mb until I knock the wall down to enlarge the utility room and while I'm at it sort out this lousy wiring.

Is the traffic shaping happening on the ADSL network too, or just the cable?

I thought it was on the cable network unless BT has put a limit on VMs Kit in the BT exchange ?:)
