View Full Version : Blackbird…
We have a pair of blackbirds who keep coming into our garden to feed and to bathe in the fish pond. Today I managed to get some great photos of the female basking in the sun so I thought I'd share. :)

I could be wrong but that looks like a young male.... the beak is yellowy coloured. Female blackbirds have light brown beaks. :)
Great pics btw.
Not sure. It certainly looks like this picture of a female (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Amsel_Weibchen_aufgeplustert_edit2_clone.jpg ).
[EDIT: Actually, someone else at another forum has also suggested that it's a juvenile male so I stand corrected]

Yeah. It's a baby male. Probably was out with dad. Saw one the other day doing the squeak/wing flap routine at dad - who paid no attention :D Got to find your own worms some day, I guess. It's the feathers and the daft look in the eye that give it away - not had a run-in with the cat yet, so still thinks the world's a nice place. Bless.

I borrowed my Mum's Kodak Z740 (http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-locale=en_US&pq-path=6547) as it has a nice large lens and 10x optical zoom. Lovely camera. :)
Isn't nature wonderful? Loved the pictures Lew. :tu:

Just a thought... Keep an eye on the pond for the young of smaller birds - liable to take a tumble when trying to drink. All too easy to get wings tangled with feet. Could be a tragedy :disturbd:

Our pond actually has a shallow "waterfall" that the birds use for drinking and bathing so no problems there.
