4 is definitely 50, so Gazzae is right. If you are thinking of Washington DC, it isn't a state, its a district.

Only 48 states, because 2 of them (whilst they *are* states of America) aren't *in* the USA..... (Alaska, and Hawaii)

Virginia was one of the 13 original states and declared itself a Commonwealth in 1776. Shortly afterwards Pennsylvania and Massachusetts followed suit. Kentucky was originally a county of Virginia and became a Commonwealth in 1792.
They are still states though... for example..
The Commonwealth of Kentucky is a state located in the East Central United States, normally included in the group of Southern states, but sometimes included, geographically and culturally, in the Midwest. Kentucky is one of four U.S. states established as a commonwealth.

I heard this on a quiz, apparently you can drop corn down it's neck for a long time, unfortunately I can't remember exactly how long the chicken actually lasted before finally kicking the bucket

Just because some call themselves Commonwealths doesn't make a difference. They are States.
