1st 512K took 1 ms = 512000 KB/sec, approx 4218880 Kbps, 4120 Mbps
2nd 512K took 141 ms = 3631.2 KB/sec, approx 29921 Kbps, 29.22 Mbps
3rd 512K took 1062 ms = 482.1 KB/sec, approx 3973 Kbps, 3.88 Mbps
4th 512K took 1062 ms = 482.1 KB/sec, approx 3973 Kbps, 3.88 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 1064187 Kbps, 1039.25 Mbps

this was the repeat test.

Your speed test result: 16.2 Mb this was from broadband genie and was the average rsult of several tests.

Only asked for an explanation not an insult:o:

Oh ok, thought you was trying to show off. I'll give you a good explanation though - See every now and then, when the sun and Jupiter are aligned, a gamma radiation burst bounces off Jupiter, and hits our moon, this causes the moon to heat up by just 0.1c, but this in turn makes the moon go slightly of course, which results in a higher tide, now VM haven't figured out that they're main internet gateway point to the US in Newquay subsequently gets flooded, which causes a small flood of electricity, in turn increasingly one lucky punter's (i.e. you) internet speed a full 2000 times.

You now know what happened young Obi Wan.

********
first reply got censored
I assume you haven't a clue either as got similer results after clearing cache.can only think it's crappy broadband checkers

many people put it down to the tests being placed in your cache and so it appears due to the small amount of data being transfered it gives false results.

however i seem to remember that (Euro)Docsis has a burst mode that will infact kick in on short amounts of data and give you a real boost for short timeframes.

the 29.22 Mbps result is pritty close to the real max speed of Docsis1.1 and there have been reports that seem related to UBR work being carryed out, and its then that people see a large increase in reported download and indeed upload rates , i assume, just as the users modem (NTL250/VM255) was reset and got its modem config.

if you had been running an upload speedtest at the same timeframe rather than the limited download one above , then its likely you would have also seen an increase in the upload rate too, it doesnt last long before the system settles down.

but it does seem to indicate that the current Docsis1.1 UBR's in combination with the latest stand alone Docsis2.0 (NTL250/VM255)user modems are able to go full spec speeds if VM ever got around to giving out a real top spec config file, that mean around 8Mbit upload speed on average in sections of the Vm network, alas not all of it....

they are never going to release that kind of config file though, so dont get your hopes up ;) its just interesting to see if people could and indeed would get these speeds and in what sections....

I think I understand when I looked at the figures it is only the 1st two lots of 512kbts which are at higher speeds which in turn makes the average so high.

Thanks for the insight.
