View Full Version : 4Mb Service Rising to 8MB?

I rang retentions last night about some problems I've recently had (which was fixed today btw) and to ask why I was on such a poor deal compared to many other people (been with NTL then Virgin for about 10 years).

I was offered a much better deal, but when I asked what it would cost if I upgraded to XL Broadband the woman actually disuaded me from upgrading "because we're upgrading Large Broadband to 8Mb next month". She suggested I see whether I was happy with that and if not I could upgrade later. She said the upgrade wasn't widely known. Anybody else heard this?

If it has the same issues as 10Mb to 20Mb appears to be causing (as reported on this forum), I would rather stay on my rock-solid 4Mb.

I have a feeling that things will settle down with regards to the 20Mb upgrades. I had my ntl120 modem replaced this morning as the improvements to the network killed it off according to the engineer that replaced it even though I'm only on 4Mb. He says he's replaced loads for the same reason. No doubt other modems have also been effected.

Anyway, back to my question. Has anybody else heard this?

Well I'll wait a couple of months and think about upgrading to 20Mb then when things have settled down. At £46 I'll still be better off than before for less money.:)

1, There was no mention of the lower tiers being upgraded.
2,Do you think Virgin bought NTL? Do you think if they did they sacked every member of staff and replaced them with VM employees?

During my many complaints over speed in the last few weeks I was told by CS that 4Mbps was being increased to 8Mbps and 2Mbps to 4Mbps

VM insiders have alredy stated there are NO PLANS to increase the lower tiers speed.

Until you see a confirmation from one the VM regulars on this forum, take what retentions say with a dustbin full of salt! Probably BS to get you to stay!

VM already have a bad name IMO ...

After all they cant seem to get the traffic management working correctly, It ALWAYS comes on a 1pm here rather than 4PM.

The sales rep i spoke to lied to me too. I asked if Leeds (LS6) had already been upgraded to 20mb, he said yes. It'll be 20mb as soon as you plug your modem in. Lies lies lieeeeeeeeeeees!

That's just stupid... no wonder VM are losing money all the time... they're staff are actually telling customers not to upgrade their packages?! :td:

Or perhaps he/she was trying to prevent an irate customer ringing back the following month saying "you let me upgrade last month, when I could have had a free upgrade this month!" - rant, rave, etc, thieving VM, useless CS, etc, etc...... :(

Why are these people saying these things .When a new service is going to be released we get a memo / email telling us when things are going to happen .

Perhaps the Flux Capacitor has broken on the VM Rumour Generator and its locked in an infinite loop? :D

During my many complaints over speed in the last few weeks I was told by CS that 4Mbps was being increased to 8Mbps and 2Mbps to 4Mbps

After speaking with VM today, they confirmed that 2Mb will become 4Mb, and 4Mb will become 8Mb, (i.e. doubling). However this will not be completed until all areas have been upgraded to 20Mb when then necessary equipment has been upgraded. No dates were confirmed, but I assuming that it won't be before August. Once the upgrade is started it should be much quicker to complete, as all of the equipment is already in place.

As with all big companies the staff are always the last to know.
Management create these rumours so that their competitors get nervous of what's going to happen shortly. It's cheaper than a press release in the early days.

I will believe it when VM make the announcement. :)

To be honest I don't doubt that the lower tiers will get upgraded, I just think it'll be quite a while away. Providing the CS reps never say a date, then even if it rolls out in 2010, they wont have lied about it, an underhanded way of keeping customers, but not a lie.

kristoficus

It IS a lie when they say the lower tiers will be upgraded within the next 'x' weeks when clearly, they are not. I was told about a 4MB upgrade in July (they didnt say 8 or 10) last month. Being that it will likely not happen, im pretty sure thats a blatant lie rather than the "underhand tactics".

Web-Junkie

They shouldn't be telling ANYBODY about speed upgrades until it's OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED!!!

Why tell people things when nothing has been confirmed?
