View Full Version : Unlocking a Virgin Lobster 575
Hi
I've been around to a few local mobile phone shops who dont have the equipment/codes to unlock my Lobster 575.
If i phone up Virgin Mobile will they be able to unlock my phone over the telephone?
Thanks
Dunno if this will be any good for you

From memory I think Virgin Mobile could do this for a small fee over the phone but this was a few years back and could have changed.
I've just emailed Virgin to see if i can have the unlocking code for the Virgin Lobster 575.
Hope they dont charge for it
Will report back in the next few days

Mobile companies are allowed to charge upto a max of £20.00 i believe
If you've spent over £30 credit with them over the past however long you've ad the account, they don't charge for unlocking.
I've had the pay monthly SIM and mobile for about 9 months now, so amounts to around £90
Another update, got a reply back saying i can get the code for free by 1st class post once ive replied with my personal details...let see what happens eh

Virgin Mobile CS is separate from Virgin TV/Telephone/Broadband CS; different call centres (in Britain), different people, different policy, that explains why Virgin Mobile wins customer service awards but the rest doesn't.
Are you going to share the code with us then?;)
I would have given you it, but i've deleted the email since it all went through fine
Sorry :erm: :dozey:
The code is based on the IMEI number anyway, so even if he had shared, it wouldn't have worked ;)

and a second too, as they sent me the details to unlock my phone in 2 working days (free).
One bugbear though, even with the unlock, I still get the Virgin splash screen on power-on, and the middle button still tries to go to Virgin Bytes (I can't customise the OK button on this phone).
...otherwise it works just great on O2 (is now my works phone).

Depending on which phone you have you can always flash it to a generic firmware.
Flashed 2 SE so far and 2 Nokias! Well chuffed abt it!

best thing to do with a lobster is to split it in 2 rub dijon mustard into it then cover with mozzarela and wack it under the grill for 10-15 mins perfect;):D
I have previously had a code from vm to unlock a phoen for free. I was told by cust svces that their policy is free unlock once you've spent £30. Prior to spending £30 they will not unlock a phone even if you offer to pay.
Do you have to spend the £30 credit or just put it on your account? I'd be happy to stick £30 on my account as soon as I get the sim and phone but I'd want to spend it at my leisure. :)
I am sure a simple topup will do afterall £30 has left you and is in VMs bank!

Unlocking these phones is old news now. fonefunshop.co.uk will do it for you no problem. They are in sheffield, but you can send it to them insured post and have it sent back next day special delivery.

I had a Lobster which I never used (apart from the £10 credit that came with it) never topped up a penny but rang Virgin and they gave me a code without a problem. My daughter is now using it on T-Mob :)

Same happened on my Orange phone I had unlocked when I moved to Virgin - it still has the option to connect to Orange internet even though there is a Virgin SIM card.

The data connections will need to be changed manually as will splash screens. I never bother changing splash screens and you really don't want to use Virgin for data!
The Orange data connections won't work so can be safely deleted.
Good luck.
