I'm in Oxford and been suffering from 100k download speeds between around 5pm and midnight for about a month now.

However today my 10Mb connection seems to be back to normal.

Has anyone else seen improvements?

Yes, mine in Walthamstow has zoomed and best was 10Mb, average 7.1Mb during peak times - I was about to leave Virgin because I have also got a 5.5 ADSL and my Virgin eves speed was about 0.8Mb. I just wish that they could come clean and explain, apologise and move on! Me, I remain Slowvirgin but hope to change my name to Veryfastvirgin!

Fine for a 4 meg connection. Never get this in the evening from this site though. My downloads seem fine, I wonder if the site itself is congested rather than Virgin's internet service??

Final report. Day 3 and speeds here in Oxford are still holding up.

I shall stop posting updates because I don't want to annoy the poor souls out there suffering from horrific download speeds at peak times.

All I can say is keep phoning them. Keep complaining. Keep requesting discounts. It took about 4 weeks but eventually I seem to be back to normal.

(probably a complete fluke and it will be worse than ever next week).

Good luck.

Hmm...just rung tech support (again) and they still say there's nothing wrong with my connection from "their end" but they've fowarded my fault on to the faults team who should have it fixed within 48 hours! Ha. I'll ring back on Tuesday then when it hasn't been fixed. Peak times are DOG slow, but in the mornings I can quite easily max out the 20mb that i've got...

However at the moment...

1st 512K took 437 ms = 1171.6 KB/sec, approx 9654 Kbps, 9.43 Mbps
2nd 512K took 1547 ms = 331 KB/sec, approx 2727 Kbps, 2.66 Mbps
3rd 512K took 1563 ms = 327.6 KB/sec, approx 2699 Kbps, 2.64 Mbps
4th 512K took 2000 ms = 256 KB/sec, approx 2109 Kbps, 2.06 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 4297 Kbps, 4.2 Mbps

And that's the best test i've done all night!!

I'm in Oxford too and my connection has got worse. Mine wasn't so bad though. Always got the full 10Mb during the day, dropping to about 2Mb in the evenings / weekend. Since the work in Oxford this week it has got worse. Not the full 10Mb during the day and down to about 1.5Mb in the evenings. I hope they still have more work to do in Oxford, especially on my UBR.

Was just about to post a thread saying the same thing...been really slow the last few weeks. This evening each page I load appears in a second. Much much better (at the moment at least!) -10mb service as I'd expect it. It says my upgrade to 20mb is in May...
Not sure how I can really tell though - I checked the modem and it's still showing 1024000bps download and 384000 upload...(DPX100).
I've registered to receive my upgrade (nice they give you an option now not to pay for the upgrade!)
I'm in the Dudley, West Midlands area by the way...

Joe

Went back to a 4Mb package and get about 2Mb when the kids are at school!

20Mb, and I must admit, I have seen an improvement after constant complaining about it.

Im easily getting double figures, and was even downloading at 3.20Mbps yesterday (it was a small file, and when I tried again to get a screen dump, it didnt happen again, but hey!).

Anyone can get the small business packages, depending on who you get to speak to sometimes you may have to push for it.

And i got it at £25/month because i was extremely annoyed so gave me a deal, its only £25/month for 12 months.

had a tech around this morning to try and sort out my slow speeds and this is the result

Happy Days are here again and it's been like this all day, he put an attenuator?? on the line or something :D:D:D
but he did say i would be lucky if it stayed like it for too long as the brighton ubr is getting old, apparently it was one of ntl's first so is struggling with the new speeds (or lack of at times!!)

This is actually GOOD for the time of day..Normally between 11am and midnight its around one meg, (tested from ftp downloads).....

rang tech support on premium rate the other day and they agreed there was a problem but couldn't say what it was, and that I should be patient and they would pass it to second line support, whatever that is.

Obviously they've done nothing. (On 20meg by the way).

Hey but things could be worse, we could all be booked on the forthcoming Branson Space Flights. :erm:

I took that silly American woman's advice, and got me a great service with no degradation or loss of speeds like ASDL customers get when they live over 200 feet away from an exchange.

I'd just like to know where my other 10.69mb bandwith is hiding
