Same here, I was using blueyonder newsgroups using XNews. Now I get a permission denied message. I tried the server addresses given on these pages but got the same message.

http://www.virginmedia.com/customers/newsgroups/?category=portal&app=customernewsgroups

Virgin Media Broadband customers:
News (NNTP) Server: news.cable.ntlworld.com
News server: port number: 119

I also tried

news.cable.virginmedia.com
but got a no data message.

So basically where have the blueyonder newsgroups gone ?

A likely guess would be because the current IPs being issued by VM are not resolving to their normal hosts, therefore the news-servers aren't recognising you as an NTL or Telewest customer and not allowing access.

I guess shiney new *.virinmedia.com hosts are on their way.

I noticed the servers were broken late last night and its still broken as I type. The best thing about Telewest used to be their news service now not even that is working under VM:mad:

Completion has gone - down to 50% on some groups. Ah well... another 3 or 4 months of no decent usenet access ahead before somebody at NTL realises... but at least I'll get another retention discount
