Hi All, my first post, looking for any help.

Ive been with Blueyonder for many years, and could never fault the service until the beginning of May, since this date 3/5/07 my speeds have been terrible, often not able to connect to standard sites. im hardly downloading anything, and rarely download much, so i assume nthing to do with this traffic shaping.
Ive called VM 5 times so far, and not really getting any help, although polite and trying to help, there is no solution.

Im on the 10mb XL service, and before the 3rd of this month, it worked a treat, testing just short of 10mb.

a speed test today was ...

Fri, 11 May 2007 20:07:39 UTC

1st 512K took 15922 ms = 32.2 KB/sec, approx 265 Kbps, 0.26 Mbps
2nd 512K took 15093 ms = 33.9 KB/sec, approx 279 Kbps, 0.27 Mbps
3rd 512K took 18563 ms = 27.6 KB/sec, approx 227 Kbps, 0.22 Mbps
4th 512K took 23391 ms = 21.9 KB/sec, approx 180 Kbps, 0.18 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 238 Kbps, 0.23 Mbps

All the answers i seem to get from VM is to test their site hxxp://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/blueyondergames/

from there i download anything and acheive speeds of 1.12MB/Sec, which is fantastic, but any other site is sloooooow. I downloaded skype today, a 12mb file took well over 30 minutes. similar tests from microsoft sites, msn etc etc, the only site to show any speed is the vm gamefiles, so customer service say this site is good, ignore bad results from every other site, its heavy traffic on them sites.

Isanyone else experiencng similar this month in the Rotherham S62 area?

Today I have restored my pc to factory settings, just incase, but no different.

The guy at CS today eventually told me there was issues on my local hub, but the problem was reported early march, and still not fixed, other than this, im lost.

I really have loved the service upto this month, but so frustrated and hope someone can shed light.

Many Thanks In advance & hope i can contribute to the forum in future.

I never trust those speed test sites, they always seem to tell me I'm getting around 1-2mb speeds when I download at a constant 500kb/s from newsgroups.

Thank you for your replies, I know the speed tests are very inaccurate, but I have always had success using them as a guide.

The speed from blueyonder gamefiles was superb 1.12MB/sec
Technical help also had me try Winzip.com but only download from winzip computing mirror, which was just short of maximum. The cnet mirror was 12KB/sec.

Ive tried many downloads, including lots from Microsoft, epson drivers, skype, msn, other drivers, and the speeds are below 50KB/sec. 12mb files taking over 1/2 hour.

As I have said, it took 7 phonecalls, a pc restore and a new router until eventually the guy told me about ticket 4681466, started 24th March & expected repair 23rd july.

Although the helpline people have been polite, its always been my problem, because if gamefiles works, then everything is good. Glad its not my problem, I always knew it wasnt, but they had me convinced!

Web pages are often timed out, msn etc is virtually unuseable at times, its a long time to wait, but if i manage to hang on with VM then I look forward to great service restored.

There clearly is a problem throughout yorkshire it said so on their service status information, but then they said it had been fixed, but it clearly hasnt been Ive just had enough of them to be quite honestand once my contract is up ill be off.I consider myself a reasonable personbut they left us without a phone service for 6 weeks earlier this year and this is the last straw. No [point phoning customer services, might get a chunk off my bill but i would prefer a service that works properly.Idont even get half a meg nowI pay for 4meg.Atrocious
