My girlfriend's connection in glasgow let's her download torrents, but not visit websites. That's "Traffic Management", then.

Torrenting fine (though won't connect to new ones too easily), instant messaging on some platforms working (but not all - gmail is dead) but the internet is.... 95% gone. One in 15 or so pages I try to open eventually does.

I am in Glasgow (G13) on 4mb with no previous problems. My area is on no way oversubscribed. The service was like this from when I got up this morning.

No problems at all here in G73 (10mb). Can view websites and can torrent fine.

Some slowness with Gmail, but that's about it. Everything else is fine.

Was online at 6:30pm too and everything was still fine.

It's probably limited down to one cab, or one UBR. If you both drop to a command prompt and do 'tracert www.yahoo.com' and paste the results it will show you which UBR you're on. (It's traceroute on linux)

I'm on renfew

Same here... Man in india said he was moving me from renfUBR1 to renfUBR2. The connection thingy here now says - cpc3-clyd2-0-0-cust135.renf.cable.ntl.com

This seemed to do the trick earlier... pages loaded! However, within 5 minutes of getting off of the phone my speed tests were back to this:
Thu, 10 May 2007 21:12:35 GMT

1st 512K took 103412 ms = 5 KB/sec, approx 41 Kbps, 0.04 Mbps
2nd 512K took 118461 ms = 4.3 KB/sec, approx 35 Kbps, 0.03 Mbps
3rd 512K took 73109 ms = 7 KB/sec, approx 58 Kbps, 0.06 Mbps
4th 512K took 97231 ms = 5.3 KB/sec, approx 44 Kbps, 0.04 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 45 Kbps, 0.04 Mbps

With pings averaging around 2000ms.

Something is very wrong. Was told there was no problem with my area - nothing reported. I feel I might be in for the long haul.

Im in Renfrew as well and for the past few weeks my internet (10 meg) has been grinding to a halt slowly but surely. Although i can visit SOME webpages so it doesnt appear to be as bad as the problems your having. Im lucky to be getting 1 meg speeds right now.:td:

EDIT

Speedtest shows im getting the following speeds on a 10meg line
Thu, 10 May 2007 22:05:36 UTC

1st 512K took 688 ms = 744.2 KB/sec, approx 6132 Kbps, 5.99 Mbps
2nd 512K took 937 ms = 546.4 KB/sec, approx 4502 Kbps, 4.4 Mbps
3rd 512K took 922 ms = 555.3 KB/sec, approx 4576 Kbps, 4.47 Mbps
4th 512K took 1047 ms = 489 KB/sec, approx 4029 Kbps, 3.93 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 4810 Kbps, 4.7 Mbps

But if i go to download, say an mp3 (legit one of course) it starts of at 5mb then drops right down to under 1mb

Been having some slow connections myself recently, after 5 years with no real issues.

PC on for first time of the day, got to newsgroups and getting 4.5/5mb (im on 10) and normally hit 9.4 solid. Looks like im being traffic managed yet Ive not used the connection all day. Very annoying. Going to call them and see what the crack is, Im thinking i may have bene cloned
