These are the guys run by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou who do dvd rentals by post. I joined up with them about 2 months ago but then read lots of unfavourable reviews of the way they were run so I cancelled my account with them, even though they'd already taken 1 month's membership. By this time I'd already ordered 1 dvd from them but I sent it back by return.

I thought everything was ok until I saw last week they took another month's membership off my debit card without my consent. When I complained about it, they told me they hadn't recieved the dvd I sent back so as per their terms and conditions they could make that charge.

I told them that's totally unreasonable as I'd done what was requested of me but they are still refusing to refund my money, instead ofering me 'credits' to use with their service. Well thanks very much but after treating me this way I don't want anything to do with these bandits.

So if you see any adverts for EasyCinema, please avoid like the plague - they are cowboys who simply seem to want to con you where possible.

I love this forum :D

I sent them an email including a link to this post saying I was giving them one final chance to make things right before I took further action and I've just had a reply saying they will send me the refund as a goodwill gesture.....

"and not an admittance of any error on our part"

I'm not pedantic - I know they did wrong but as long as I get my money back I'll be happy :)

I don't know if it was the fact I linked to this post or not - like I said, all I wanted was my money back.

Trouble is that this post will show up in Google searches for EasyCinema, especially if it gets a lot of traffic, not good advertising for them ;)

You could always write a nice review of their service here (http://www.uk-dvd-rental-guide.com/easycinema_dvd_rental.htm) Russ. ;)

I personally use Blockbuster (http://www.uk-dvd-rental-guide.com/blockbuster_dvd_rental.htm).

Cheers for that - read the review from Paul on 2nd December - identical to my circumstances, so this definately isn't an unknown situation for them.

http://www.easy.com/ Look what you could wreck by taking action. You should really complain about it all. One thing though, does it say in the T&Cs that if a DVD isn't returned after canceling they will continue to take out payments?

I can recommend ILoveFilm. Been with them for a couple of months and very impressed. Good choice and fast turnaround.

I've been using the Amazon rental service, £10 for 6 DVD's a month. They offer guitar (and other) tutorial DVD's for rental which is great as I can check them out before spending £20-£25.

other thing to mention is the easy dvd rental is powered (ie run) by lovefilm. so make sure you dont join any of the others like odeon, tesco, Whsmith, Guardian and CD wow because they are all run by the same company!!

No idea but I don't see that as relevant - I sent it back, how was I to know it didn't arrive?

Bit late in the day, but sending recorded delivery would have got a signature.
