View Full Version : Loss Of Broadband - Anyone Experience the same?

Hi.

Left for work yesterday morning with my 10MB broadband connection working fine. But got in last night to find I had no connection.

My NTL 250 modem shows a static power light, static sync light (and static ethernet when connected) but no Ready light (if power cycled it flashes during initialisation and then goes off).

So after a non-productive call to Support last night I am still without a connection. The problem as been escalated up to the second level support as they are bit baffled as the hardware appears to be working from the fact the Sync light is on. I am still waiting.

Anyone have a similar experience?

login to your modem with http://192.168.100.1/ user/password is root/root, then post the Cable Modem Operation Configuration page.

Will do when I get in this evening.

Its the bit that says 'network access:', it should say 'Allowed'. If it says denied and the numbers below it are 32000, it means that you have been cut off or the modem has dropped off the account from a housemove etc. If it says denied and there are no numbers below it, there is a physical fault.

My modem did the exact same thing on Sunday. It lasted for probably 45minutes then came back.

I've just joined the forums because I wanted to check if anyone has had a similar problem to the one I've just experienced.

I have the exact same modem, and it went through the exact same procedure as you described, same sequence of lights - no connection whatsoever.

It lasted for just over an hour and after going through the rigmarole of unplugging,re-plugging various cables numerous times and, just as I was about to waste my time with tech "help", the ready light came on and stayed solid and...touch wood, all has been okay for the last hour.

Good luck Jambo, hope it sorts itself out for you.

Type 192.168.100.1 into your browser. Then go to operation config, and report back.

It should hopefully say "Access allowed".

Well, you've been up'ed to 20mbit/s. Could you post the data from the link labeled "downstream" & "Upstream" please(Forgot to mention). I'm probably not the one to help, but I can give you a rough indication.

You should be allowed access, seing as your network access is set to "Allowed".

I should add, I'm on the basic 2MB Broadband service. Anyhow, here's UPSTREAM & DOWNSTREAM:

Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 2
Downstream Frequency : 402750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM256
Downstream Symbol Rate : 5360.537 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps32Increment4
Downstream Receive Power Level : -2.4 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 38.9 dB

Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 3
Upstream Frequency : 22000000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 2560 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 52.5 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 2

Nope. Those levels seem fine. You have a fantastic signal to noise ratio, too. However, upstream transmit level is a tad high, but I doubt it would completely disable your internet access.

Try again to connect, see what happens. And if you still can't, contact Virgin.

It's a complete mystery. I've had Virgin/NTL Broadband since October and give or take a few laggy moments, the service has been excellent tbh. But thanks for you time Sirpingalot.

Have you tried connecting again?

Sorry, sirpingalot, you misunderstand. I DID have the problem earlier today, but it sorted itself and it's been okay now for the last hour and a half. But I've no idea why it happened.

One question though, would I be right in assuming that the 192.168.100.1 link will work when my internet connection is down enabling me to check on the modem's status while offline?

Sirpingalot

Yes, that's right.

Oh, and I got the impression that it wasn't working. Mustn't have read the thread carefully.
