Nope. VM CS seem to think that 2Mb and 4Mb is being upgraded as well but there has been nothing about it on the VM newsgroups and also VM Employees on this site haven't heard anything about it.

Spoke to a virgin rep yesterday (I have his details, mobile no etc, as I needed to get VM installed at my new place anyway), and he said that the 2Meg and 4meg tiers should be upgraded along side the 10meg, but of course thats not official confirmation, and of course if it isn't true, I can hold him to it :)

I heard somewhere that 2 might go up to 5Mb! (unless I am getting mixed up with 5Mb being the limit an STB Modem can take.

It would be a good move on Virgins part to upgrade us all, as other companies offer upto 8Mb most of the time.

I know it can vary on length from the Exchange and all that, but Me? I live about 5 Mins away from an Exchange, so Big speeds at small prices are easy for me to get... its just I dont want to leave a company like Virgin, when all there is is Sky (who want to eliminate all None Profitable customers anyways) and BT, who Im not a big fan of anyroad.

I can vaguely remember ntl, last year, saying that by early 2007 all customers on cable broadband were to be upgraded to 10 meg speeds with three different download limits dependant on what you paid for internet per month. top tier was to be unlimited, bottom tier was a 2gig limit per month. can't remember what the middle tier was. So what has happened to my 10 meg upgrade? i'm currently on 4 meg.

I got told today that 2 and 4 mb will stay same and the 10mb goes to 20mb.

I was having a go at billing cos they yet again cocked it up.

Pay more then?

No idea, I guess as the 10meg users pay the top dollar they get preference, and if anyone on 2meg or 4meg wants more speed they can simply dig into their pockets and pay for 10meg (20meg ongoing) like all others, I used to pay £50pm for the 2meg when new.

hey guys, i am new here.

i been with blueyonder for about 5 years, but i recently got a firend of mine on virgin media.

when i phoned i vm to get him bb, talk xl and tv:XL, i was told by the sales person dont waste money on the 4mb service now since the 2mb is going to upped to 4mb very soon and he said the upgrade is likely in june or july.

so be happy :)

I will reiterate what other people have said on this, and many other threads.
VM have as yet, not stated whether the lower bands will be up graded.

More than suitable for most.

Dont forget, most people just use their broadband to surf the web, and not leech like some people ;)

thats true.. one service would have no advantage over another in that case.. so why would they not choose the cheapest?

It's the U/L speed I'd like to see upped.

DL speed 2048 kb/s
UL speed 200 kb/s

Approximately 1:10 whereas ADSL is usually 1:2.

As far as I have been told, 10<>20Mb gradually across the country.
No plans, as of yet, to upgrade 2Mb or 4Mb within any areas.

I wouldnt say that ADSL connections are anywhere near a ratio of 1:2 Download:Upload.

They are usually closer to the 1:10 that you quoted and are in actual fact, much less than that. I run a couple of BT Business connections for work use - they are all 8Mb connections downstream but the upstream is quoted by BT to be "up to 448kb/s" on http://www.btplc.com/News/Articles/Showarticle.cfm?ArticleID=07784200-23b3-46df-91df-743862935266

i'll beg to differe on your 1:2 ration

that would mean an 8meg down would have 4meg up!! on my adsl connection its 8128 down and 448 up so thats more like 1:20 and seeing as the VM 4meg service has 400 upload make what you want of the ratio's

Trust me this is from a guy who downloads nothing, in saying that I’m downloading some MOHA trailer for a game….. Its more I thought 2MB would be better than it is? I have tried faster speeds and it was a waste of money my online games seemed the same but then again the jump was only to 4mb and Back,

I’m only paying £10 for the 2MB as I got rid of my TV and Virgin phone so I guess I cant complain. But I would say my speed has got a lot slower at weekends and at night.

It’s just I play online in a clan game and everywhere seem’s to have better speeds, Sweden especially for about the same money as the basic. Turkey is the exception as it tends to work on and off and this is just tolerated and expected!

yea i was bit surprised as well, but the guy seems very sincere lol, i mean i was asking 4 the 4mb serivce, and he goes dont pay extra for the serice now since the 2mb is goona be upgraded to 4mb.

so i am just saying. mabe september time.

coz BT 21CN netowrks will work most part of country by 2008, and that means most homes will get minum 16MB services for price like £10, compared to this VM is expensive and if they dont somethink soon well ppl r gonna move. coz BE there ISP contaced me saying i can get between 16-24mb in my area now for £24. and what i pay £37 for 10Mb now. i am tempted to move.

Agreed, I would like 500k upload not 200 which is pathetic.
