Either way, it could still compromise download speeds. Try downloading from within the virgin network and see what you get.

My speeds in Guildford are rubbish today and it appears that 20Meg is currently worse than the old 10Meg it replaced.

All services died last night at 11.20 which was both internet and V+ digital TV. It was not a CATV outage as the TV analogue bypass still worked.

Shockingly bad speeds for a few days now in the Teesside area. Tried different speed tests and get varying results. Tried downloading from Microsoft and get 200 - 215KB/sec. Thats computer connected straight to modem ( NTL:250 ) by ethernet. Have not rang them yet like.

Plugged back in to router, now getting 100KB/sec. I used to get 10MB or there abouts anyway.

Been like this since Wednesday night, Teesside also. Someone else from Teesside posted in another thread that his speeds were fine but apparently Teesside is split between those that get fed from Stockton and those fed from Middlesbrough.

speeds were fine this morning, currently on a 4megabit service and was gettinf 3.8 3.9 as usual no matter what time of day it is.

coudlent help notice my ping was higher on cs tonight tho.. checked speeds sitting at 1.8 tried reboot etc still issues.

front end message on their faults line, issues with dtv & broadband service in ML1 Motherwell and KY8 postcodes.

would be uber to get the 20meg rolled out as of 1st of may up here - im going onto 10meg next week so :D a nice jump from 4 to 20 would be awsome!

Second day for me - didnt bother ringing tech support as they get enough money off me and to be truthful as I found out last year they either don't know what the problem with the NTL/VM infrastructure is or they don't care! Also I don't need a lesson in networking or PCs as I have been doing it for many years, and mine work ;) .

I don't download anything apart from my AV updates, so all I require from VM is an internet connection that works so that I can play my game online.

And when it does not work perhaps they would have the decency to indicate this on their website or on a forum such as this!!

Not to much to ask - or is it?????:dozey:

I always find Amsterdam or any of the German locations give the best speeds, possibly because of submarine cables to the continent rather than the UK's congested pipes since I'm on the coast and with two landing points just up the road.

Things have improved significantly here.

Mechanicus

I use Giganews' speed test, because it is consistent - if it gets slow speeds there, then there is a problem, because I used to get 10mb speeds. It is showing as 2mb-3mb speeds at the moment.

The fact that the Speedtest.com's Dublin server is better than London (~7mb, not 10mb, but better than London's 1mb!), suggests that it is all NTL/VM's end, and no real need to contact CS or TS. They should know about it, and I am guessing it is to do with the 20mb upgrade.
