When gaming i cant host any sort of game on the Xbox360, im on 10 meg bb and have got a consistent upload of 460kb/s+ however i have breaks in my cable, ie one at the brown box, one at my wall where the tele was, one going to when the tele is now, then from there the cable goes outside, theres another break there cos the technition droped a slab on the cable, snapping it , idiot, anyway he fixed it up... my speed is fine baring that but will i suffer any problems because theres 5 breaks in the cable?

It depends how well they fixed the cable .THe best thing to do is look at the diag screen 192.168.100.1 and look at the upstream downstream levels and the snr level :)

I'm no expert but those figurs look borderline to me... -10 and 53 on power levels.

Nice SNR though :)

I'll let a real expert tell you more accurately though. Sorry if my post worries you at all.

this sticky gives an idea of the 'correct' levels.

Yes the -10 is just in the spec but not recomended updtream a little bit high but the snr is good :)

SNR stands for Signal To Noise Ratio. Basically how much the device can hear through the noise. The better the signal, obviously the better, however introduce noise and things may be distorted... Leading to errors. 32.8dB is fine. The device can hear it enough through the noise for a decent service.

My perosonal SNR averages 39.5 dB.

Hi Druchii (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/members/17047.html) & everyone. Could you give me advice on my current levels please?. I'm quite the newbie when it comes to this side of networking :monkey::dunce:. I'd really like to know because I mainly play online and I'd like to know how strong my line is.

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/%5BURL=http://img76.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cablerz9.jpg%5D%5BIMG%5Dhttp://img76.imageshack.us/img76/3609/cablerz9.th.jpg%5B/IMG%5D%5B/URL%5Dhttp://img76.imageshack.us/img76/3609/cablerz9.th.jpg (http://img76.imageshack.us/my.php?image=cablerz9.jpg)

I'm still on 10 meg and waiting for 20meg in Edinburgh. Hope it won't be too long so I can test it out for something new to play with:D. I do not abuse my line as 10 meg is fast in the groups that are news ;) so I don't ever need to. Could fill 500GB fairly fast enough but who the hell wants to burn that lot:Yikes:. I'd rather shoot peoples heads and faces off.

Anyone here play Call of Duty online?.

That signal to noise ratio is perfect and all the other levels look to be well within what they should be.

Nice stable, really strong connection you have there :D

Mine is really on-the-edge being at around 30.3dB - 31.5dB. Still, I get the full 10mb/s most of the time. (Most of the time ;))

Thank you for such a quick response Druchii :tu: :).

That's absolutely fantastic news as I thought being in the city would certainly mean congestion. I'm on the outskirts of the city centre but still in a well populated area.

I can game away happily for now and hope and prey for the 20 meg to be just as efficient.

My mother and sister have just had 2meg installed in their new home as well as the phone. Here are my mothers levels. They live a 2 minute walk from my house. (scarily close:Yikes::disturbd::)) I'm looking after my sister while my mother is at church just now and I'm posting from here).

There connection looks even better than yours to be honest.

The higher the Signal to noise ratio the better. (30+ is acceptable, anythign below you'll see problems)
Anything between -10 and +10 is said to be fine for downstream power levels.
And as for upstream, things like 50 would cause worry, however that 33 looks nice to me :)

EDIT: Aimed at JD ;)

Only got 38.5

Thank you again Druchii :D.

Sorry Hex my mothers beats you slightly. Nice try though :p:. I'm just having a laugh ;).

Druchii, nice system btw. You have better cpu and I better gfx ;). Mine is X2 3800 @ 2.8Ghz 1.475v. G.Skill DDR400 @ 466 2.5-3-3-7 1T stock v // 2x 250gb Hitachi Deskstar Sata II // X1900XT @ 702/841 // X-FI Xtreme Gamers, Gigaworks S750 // 17" office reject and 22" BenQ FP222W // Thermaltake PurePower 560w & Kandalf Case (Black) // Copperhead // Saitek Gamers Keyboard and R440 Force Feedback Steering wheel // DFI-Ultra-D //.

No xbox360 or PS3 for me. PC all the way!!!!.

Druchii I just noticed my mothers upstream power level to be 33 and I'm on 46dBmV. Is that something I should be concerned about and can I do anything about that through a call with the technical department at VM?.

EDIT: I have the Motorola SB5100 and my mother has the SB5101E version.

Nope the upstream power level is fine, the higher it is the more it's having to shout to be heard at the other end.

Anything upto 50 should be fine, but 50 is where you start to wonder what's worong.
Everything is fine :D

Also, my ram is at 916Mhz @ 5-5-5-12 (Can go lower but due to bad PSU... Voltage issues)
You have a nice setup there :D

Wanna know my awesome setup -

Athlon 2100XP - running @ 1.79Ghz (I know what you're thinking.Amazing, ain't it?),

1GB DDR of super-fast 266Mhz RAM,

And a AGP ATI x1650 pro 512MB

All of this and I can only get 12ish Fps on games like Quake 4.

I think I needs meselves a new computer! (Soon to be getting the one that you recommended Scott :))

Don't tell the wife or she'll be off with Hex :o::Yikes::D.

Druchii, Thank you again. You are a really helpful and friendly person from the posts I've seen since joining. I'm mainly a browser on this forum but I look through quite a few threads.

Really nice bandwidth you'll have with your DDR2 and with lower timings it'll just get sharper when you get a new PSU. I'm thinking of upgrading soon but will be going for graphics first. 8800GTS 640MB version or X2900XT. You see May is a great month for me. Not only is my upload and download getting doubled but the X2900XT should be released in 2 weeks also ;).

SirPingaLot as long as it's playing and doing what you generally do and at a reasonable rate then it's doing it's job so don't worry :tu:. If not then it's upgrade time when the funds are ready ;). It's also a great time to buy a computer/parts as it's so cheap. I paid £230 for my older 3700+ Athlon 64 (939) and just at christmas there I built an AM2 machine for £400 all in (Keyboard, mouse 19" WS LCD, 5.1sound, Case, PSU, 250gb HD, CPU & Ram, onboard 6100)
