Just done two speed tests, both on the Speedtest.net website. One was to London and the other was to Roubaix, France. Here are the results:
London:

Roubaix:

It shows that the London speed test is heavily in demand and therefore giving the wrong speed results! I'd use either of Paris or Roubaix as they seem more accurate...and knowing the French internet a much better system as well! The ping to the London one is also higher than the French one!
Would be interesting if people did both of them and to post their findings here. I find that during the day the London one gives a good result. Will be interesting to see everyone's results....

Roubaix - Speedtest.net, for some reason, gives pathetic results, compared to the CF speedtest.
1st 512K took 591 ms = 866.3 KB/sec, approx 7138 Kbps, 6.97 Mbps
2nd 512K took 540 ms = 948.1 KB/sec, approx 7812 Kbps, 7.63 Mbps
3rd 512K took 531 ms = 964.2 KB/sec, approx 7945 Kbps, 7.76 Mbps4th 512K took 481 ms = 1064.4 KB/sec, approx 8771 Kbps, 8.57 Mbps
Overall Average Speed = approx 7917 Kbps, 7.73 Mbps

Yup always seem to hit 9mb+ on that speedtester
Yup always seem to hit 9mb+ on that speedtester
Same here, I think that speedtest.net is either having technical issues or is being hit by those with 20meg connections testing them.

For various reasons I am still on the 10Mb service via my Samsung 2100C, generally accepted to be reliable for 5-6Mb at best.
I have just done the following test. I'm not aware of this test being effected by any form of caching but...

...and I have never tested Roubaix before

I think I'll keep quiet and enjoy :D
Just for comparison I tested on http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ - BBMax Result (http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/results.php?t=1177583279&v=1204984)
Well on Monday I was downloading a 67MB file from the Airbus website at work, this took 25 minutes.
I tried the same file at home and downloaded the same file in less than 1 minute.
Hopefully there going to upgrade our network here very soon.

Crap download speed's again tonight for me, 4meg & only getting 1.2meg D/L
Am still only scraping a bit over 1Meg myself - a tenth of its potential. Seems totally crippled on this Leicester connection.

It should sort itself out. Don't worry.
I can't help it, I am a born worrier :)
Still, I am thankful that through all of this maintenance/overhaul VM has maintined constant connectivity for me. The only noticable effect has been the reduced transfer speed. Everything other than massive downloading is actually unaffected.
it isn't just the london speedtest that is slow, i can only manage ~2mbit from my server in london whereas i can max the server out from at uni so it suggests vm have problems in london that really need sorting out
This is the speed tests thread
