Hi there,
just recently shifted and transferred my ntl broadband to my new apartment in Glasgow. I've always been using the 4mb service. The technician can and gave me a new virgin media modem. I've been downloading some file and was quite suspicious that the upper limit of my download speed was ~230kb/s, which translates to ~2mb service. Previously at my old flat, download speeds were peaking at 400+kb/s, but that was with the old modem.

So to cut a lonstory short, I looked at the modem firmware and realised that the Maximum Downstream Data Rate was set to 2048000.

My question is: what should I do now? should I ring tech support? or is there a more painless way? I've tried to swop the old modem, but was unable to get online - am I right to say that the service is tied to to new modem?

Thanks in advance for any help!
Aaron

Yes it's tied to the new modem and yes you have to call them.
