probably because Virgin is undergoing a maintenance on the network

Virgin Media is committed to maintain and upgrade our Broadband network, There is a requirement to carry out maintenance and upgrades to parts of the network that may cause customers to experience a brief loss of connection, while the work is carried out.

The following work will take place between 12am Monday 23rd April and 12am Sunday 29th April

On the morning of Tuesday the 24th April between midnight and 6 am, Network improvements will result in a loss of service in Hatfield, Oxford, Brighton, Wardley, Lichfield, Cwmbrwla, and the surrounding areas. Network updates in Huddersfield, Poplar, Romford, East London may result in a loss of service. Server updates in in Ashford, Baguley, Belfast, Bromley, Birmingham and the surrounding areas will result in a loss of Cable Modem provisioning. Updates to the virginmedia.com homepage may result in a brief loss of services.

On the morning of Wednesday the 25th April between midnight and 6 am, Network improvements will result in a loss of service in Hatfield, Wearside, Oxford, Charminster, Brighton, Cosham, Cambridge and the surrounding areas. Network updates in Oldham, Bromley, South London and the surrounding areas may result in a loss of service. Server updates in Renfrew, Peterbrough and the surrounding areas will result in a loss of Cable Modem provisioning.

On the morning of Thursday the 26th April between midnight and 6 am, Network improvements will result in a loss of service in Wearside, Oxford, Poole, Brighton and the surrounding areas. Network updates in multiple sites across the UK will result in a brief loss of services.

On the morning of Friday the 27th April between midnight and 6 am, Network updates in multiple sites across the UK will result in a brief loss of services.
