So I just installed Windows Server 2003 and I was wondering if I can get a static IP, I have a cable modem, I hope I can get a static Ip as it would be a great help to me.

No you can't. Not with VM, however as long as you don't change the device connected to the Cable Modem it should VERY RARELY change anyway.

Rarely?

That depends on uBR utilization. The more modems on a uBR the more often the IP addresses will rotate.

You could get a static hostname linked to your IP address here (http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/dyndns/).

There are update clients (http://www.dyndns.com/support/clients/third-party.html) that will keep your IP address current...

Actually my IP has only changed ONCE since I plugged in my router (In 4 years) and I think that was some resegmenting because it didn't just change slightly, it changed completely.

VM residential do not give static IP as these are residential accounts. If you need static IP for business reasons then contact VM business who can give static IP to business users...
