I am on a 10mb connection from a 250 cable modem. Sometimes in the morning I get 9.5mb but by the evening most I can get is 3mb. Is anyone having the same problems????????????????

There has been an ALL service failure the entire day for your area. Check the Broadband Service Status report and you will see it.
I am in Oxted and my connection has been out ALL day and only on about 6pm. I have a 10MB line but only getting 1MB at the moment. I think they have had their work cut out for them today. I hope they will sort it out by tomorrow or I will have to be on the phone to them.
Lets hope....

I'm in St Albans and have been experiencing a similar issue, typical speeds around 3Mb during the evening sometimes worse, but from 1am or 2am onwards I get back to something near 10Mb until the next afternoon.

I stand to be corrected but, your mileage will vary. During peak traffic times i.e. evenings and weekends, speeds will drop as more people are online [rush-hour]. Off-peak, [mornings/late at night] most folk are at work/asleep so 'normal' service is resumed.*

MalNichol - I'm in Hemel on the 4mb service and I'll be lucky to get over 2mb at peak evening times. Weekday mornings \ early afternoon and I'm back up to near the 4mb. You could argue that you should get a better evening service but it is always advertised as "Up to....". I'd actually prefer to get nearer 75% (around 3mb) than 50% but that's how it goes.

I understand that you may get all of what you pay for but when you only get 20% for 70% of each day and the only time when the internet is near the optimal speed is when you are work surely this cannot be right and VM must do somthing about it?

If this happens in a shop no matter how many clauses they have saying upto or not quite they would not stay in business very long, is that not right. So why are we accepting this?

Wasnt so long ago when we had NTL and the speed was fairly constant ahhhhh the good old days.

My 2mb is good day and night. Didn't notice a problem on the 16th either...

I don't think you can blame VM for the amount of internet traffic about.

Out of interest, how much do you pay for 10mb?

Threatened them with Sky broadband and they gave me the 10mb broadband and phone anytime for £35. They also upgraded my modem for free. Sounded good until I started getting less tham 1mb for most of the day:mad:
