Got 10mb broadband (up from 4) in mid Feb with the VIP package. It's been pretty consistently between about 7500 (at it's worst) and 9700 (at it's best) since, no matter what time of day I've been testing.

However the last couple of days quite frequently I'm getting download speeds of 1000 - 3000 at various times of the day. Ping rates can be as high as 75. Nothing really has changed. Upload speeds are still consistent with levels near 500.

Anyone know of any issues?

HI
Best call cust care to see if your area going thru up dates for the 20 meg roll out. You should soon tell as if speeds not come back to normal in couple of days may be tech issue...

That would make sense - we did get the notice last week that they're upgrading speed. Will keep an eye on it for a few days and if it doesn't come back up will ring them. I don't do much downloading (aside from surfing) so it's not a huge issue at the moment.

Thanks

Thanks

I'm starting to suspect it's an issue with Speedtest and not my computer. I went to another thread where they suggested just downloading a large file, and seeing what the actual speed was, and that if someone on 10mb was averaging 800kbps dowloading that file it was good. I actually got 990kbps so it seems the download speed is fine - so just the sites that are off?

Thanks everyone :D

Im in CM20 and Speedtest.net is around 1.5Mb, on my 10Mb connection, other spped test sites I use are up around thr 8.5Mb.

So now reading this thread I'm suppecting Speedtest is being hit.

I tried two servers in Holland and got around 4.5Mb with a higher ping rate than london, and I live about 25 miles from central london

Here's what I have just from sending a ping, but it's been years since I've done this so I have no way of interpreting. Can someone tell me if this is any good please and thanks?

4 pings won't tell you a lot but the ones you have done seem fine

try

ping bbc.co.uk -t

and press ctrl+c when you think you've done enough and give us only the last 4 lines at the bottom send/received etc.

Hmmm - I think there is actually a problem with my speed - have been testing off and on with both speedtest.net and the speed test at the top of here, and yesterday I was getting decent speeds on speedtest and proper speeds on here, but tonight this is what I'm consistently getting

Sun, 15 Apr 2007 19:49:57 UTC

1st 512K took 1188 ms = 431 KB/sec, approx 3551 Kbps, 3.47 Mbps
2nd 512K took 1109 ms = 461.7 KB/sec, approx 3804 Kbps, 3.71 Mbps
3rd 512K took 907 ms = 564.5 KB/sec, approx 4651 Kbps, 4.54 Mbps
4th 512K took 1391 ms = 368.1 KB/sec, approx 3033 Kbps, 2.96 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 3760 Kbps, 3.67 Mbps

So... either it is something going on in the gearing up for 20meg or I think something may have happened when they changed the spot in the cabinet I was connected to in order to fix a TV problem.

Is that possible? That moving the point in the cabinet may have started a problem that they may have to tweak? It's really only been since then that I've been noticing a problem.

Now appear to be proxy-less in BH14 woohoo :)

savvychels
15-04-2007, 21:54
Is that good or bad? I've never used proxy's, so don't know.

I did read on another thread (can't remember which one now) that they are removing the proxy's and gave a link for more info.

Graham M

Basically the Proxies were a compulsory gateway (no easy way around) to the WWW which minimizes the flow of WWW traffic outside of the NTL Network by caching the files required on servers internal to the NTL network. Anyway they're getting rid of them and so far I've noticed a definite increase in browsing speed and responsiveness. You can tell if you are currently proxied by the "Connection" link at the top of the page.
