Is the Internet service good? Can you really get 8MB with other providers?

I thought Virgin did take over Telewest? coz Telewest merged with ntl..... and VM took over ntl:Telewest.

No, ntl:Telewest MERGED with Virgin Mobile to create Virgin Media.

Yeah that's what I mean. But the thread creator said VM were going to take over Telewest but Telewest was already part of VM.

Ntl & Telewest merged, the company then bought Virgin Mobile & also bought the right to use the Virgin Brand.

So to get back on topic re the internet service, the answer is yes and no.

ADSL works differently to cable. Cable speeds don't deteriorate with distance from the exchange. ADSL does. Most ADSL users will not be able to get the full 8 meg speeds hence why their services are sold as "up to", but then cable also covers itself by marketing that way.

However If you subscribe to the next generation ADSL services then 8 meg speeds should be possible from a connection that might be sold as up to 16 meg or whatever.
