Hi Everyone,

Maybe you can help me?

I am on blueyonder 4mb - Liverpool 17 - XP Pro, direct ethernet connection to modem. Firewall off, no spyware or other programs running. MTU = 1500.

I can download from US servers at 2mb - 4mb at all times...

Websites don't load because of intermittent packed loss at all times of day, including with STB unplugged.

These are my modem levels: [nb. I have already had a new cable modem installed last week.]

Downstream Value
Frequency 339000000 Hz

Signal To Noise Ratio 41.5 dB

Power Level 6.1 dBmV ----------- I have also tried with a 3db attenuator
The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading

Upstream Value
Channel ID 3
Frequency 34000000 Hz
Power 47.0 dBmV

I always get packet loss somewhere, often at the beginning.

I have spoken to tech support in Liverpool, Scotland and India and have got the following responses:

a. Cable modem faulty.
b. New cable being laid in your area today! :erm:
c. Computer faulty (tried two others and linux and safe mode)
d. Known fault 'in area'
e. 'There are no faults in your area'

Don't know what to believe!

Only thing I can offer is that I'm on a 'new' IP address beginning 77 and that the problems started after 'routine maintenance' in my area last week, which led to loss of connectivity for 1 hour.

BY CS told me they have ran out of IP addresses.

ps. Teleport has also been intermittently inaccessible. I have checked cable connections (which are 3 years old) and they look tight... I have had a new STB as well as cable modem (SB5100)

Any help appreciated as tech aren't helping much...

Here is a tracert to nildram too and some modem log info:

Forgot to mention that the lights on the cable modem go out sometimes. The same as on the modem they replaced.

ALSO A LINE TEST AT THE END

I don’t understand half of what you've said  but I've had similar problems on and off for 5 years. Telewest were breathtakingly unhelpful, and tried to get me to reinstall XP, despite my telling them again and again that I had tried 3 different PCs on it... I found by accident how to change the cable modem’s upstream channel to a different number, and bang – everything started to fly again. Don’t know how or why, but it works.

Same thing has been happening to my connection, i haven't changed any settings here but half the time i get timeouts and packet loss.

I get no where with tech support either.

Seriously, whenever I get this, I change the channel and everything’s fine again. Unfortunately I don't even really know what the channel IS – I assume it’s a frequency change or something. All I know is that it works. Unfortunately I haven’t written down anywhere how to do it, and I’m at work now – but if someone more knowledgeable here could post the procedure, it might help anyone with this problem. It’s really not difficult; all you need to do is to access the modem from your browser, and it's all there. I just can’t remember its IP address.

.

Maybe some routers/sites have not updated their lists to allow 77.x? Although 9 months should be plenty!

It's http://192.168.100.1
I can't seem to be able to change the upstream channel this way. Is that because "Upstream Lock" is set to "Locked"?
Or do I change it another way?

Sorry mate, I really can't remember how I do it... it’s a while now since I last did, and I’m in work when I read these posts, so no access to it. I’m sure there’s loads of people on here who know how to do it...
