Absoloutley pitiful performace between these times.

Many of the FPS server i play on have admin mods built in that will automatically kick somone from the server if they break a predefined Ping limit

THis is usually set to 100ms, it helps consistancey on the server and keeps it all fair and square and running smoothly.

in the past few weeks I cant even stay on a server for 2 minutes without spiking upto 500ms+ and me getting booted.

my stable ping has risen from 30ms upto 60ms ( boohoo) lower is always better but a stable connection is more important..

The problem seems to occur where NTL hands off to Rapidswitch a central london area routing company that many many gaming servers use at some point. It has already crippled my ventrilo server which keels over during peak rates also.

Is this a product of packet shaping? Its another nail in the coffin for NTL/VM after they took off Sky 1 for me. Ive only been wit them for 7 years or so and recently its all going horribly worng with them for gaming.

i get traffic shaped when i download so much in a hour at max line speed, but when i have been shaped it has NEVER had any effect on my pings, i think it would be safe to rule out shapeing tbh as if you was undergoin shapeing wouldnt games be a priority ?

Its not really shaping, its a basically a speed reduction, but it should'nt affect pings , in fact the reduction in load on congested areas should improve gaming at peak times. [in theory]
In fact if you not d\loading just gaming, your speed etc would remain at full anyway, whatever speed your on.

Thats to my Rented ventrilo server its totaly all over the place during peak times.

Can you make sense out of that ?

Ditto

Same sort of thing here EVE Online is now playable no random disconnects. Yet my traceroutes all seem fine not sure if it's anything to do with my SNR :(

Ditto for World of Warcraft! Come on VM, that's 3 seperate threads for 3 separate games all experiencing latency issues! SORT IT!!!!!

Perhaps the packet shaping is removing packets, which wouldn't cause too much trouble for downloading as it would just get it again, but in a game would be catastrophic.

Have a look at this thread I started

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12/33609833-connection-not-responding.html

Very similar situation. Wouldn't surprise me if you have to many people on the UBR. They can run some tests to see if that is the problem. If that is the problem don't expect a fix soon. Expect Paul to post making out that you are unreasonable for expecting a service you are paying for ;)
