so i tracert to bbc.co.uk and im worried about the 1st hop because from what i was told it was suppose to be all 1ms

I called up VM customer service and they said that the slow internet speed and high ping rates are nothing to do with the UBR area because tehere was nothing wrong with it. So the lady refreshed the server i was on, its a bit better but i still get high ping rates often now and then.
I asked if they can do anything to stop this high ping rate and they said they cant do anything more...So basically its like its on my end that has something wrong is there?

any suggestions and ideas, im getting sick of customer service :(

what else have you got on your machine thats accessing the internet at the same time?

nothing else, i used to use a router, but then i thought the router was causing me to lag, so i disconnected it and just used cable modem ethernet cable straight to the pc.
