Hi,

My torrents are downloading at 100kb/s max on 10meg connection, I think I need to unblock some ports. I've unblocked them on my firewall, and tried to unblock them on my router (linksys wrt45g, dd-wrt firmware). Could someone please help me. Downloading normal things from the internet is alot faster (around 500kb/s)

What are other peoples average download speeds on 10meg?

so many people ask this, because of seeders / leechers !

Then why do other people get download speeds on the same torrent of 600kb/s?

because they are not downloading at the same time ? OR they are downloading at the same time and useing a lot of the available bandwidth for the torrent ?

what decides how much bandwidth people get?

Other reasons are....

The peers you are connected to have poor upload speeds or are real leechers with near zero upload limits.

You're not limiting your uploads and there's no bandwidth left for your ACK packets, that's a surprisingly common one, but would cause all your internet activity to slow down.

my upload limit is 20kb/s, I still have a feeling its something to do with the ports, in the bottom corner it has my external ip address and says its not connected, it says my listening is unreachable?

In my experience of torrents I would suggest you....

1, Stick to one torrent at a time. There is a reason why clients where originally made for 1 torrent. ;)

2, Limit the ammount of peers you connect to to a reasonable amount for your connection. Trying to connect to them all is stupid and will result in slow ass speeds.

3, Set your max-upload in your client to 80% of your total upload speed.

4, Get a decent client.

I happen to live in England, not the USA, why would I collude with an American company :Yikes: The RIAA deal with music I believe not games! If I was going to report anything it would be to the moderators, which I haven't, just be careful what you admit to in public that's all!

lol, I'm with WebJunkie, you take a chance pasting a diagram showing that you are currently downloading Supreme Commander, The Prestige and Harsh Times. Surely it is not in Cableforum's best interest to allow folk to ask how to speed the downloading of these files up and show via jpg. that they are in the middle of such activity. This is what Web-Junkie is probably trying to bring to the forum's attention. Like any forum, you cannot show in any form that you endorse such behaviour and that you can help speed it up. And to be honest... I wouldn't be to happy if someone was openly showing my ip address to the general public downloading such files either, that is definitely a breach of privacy I'm sure?

the pics aren't from my computer i found them and posted them as they relate to the problem i am having as they show that the ports are not opened, i wouldnt put my ip address on a public forum. does anyone know how to open ports on ddwrt?

try using utorrent, and unblock the ports for that and try it, but if ur getting max 100kb/s then its most likely the seeding and the leechers. choose the least leechers and the most seeders.
