If I phone VM and ask for a new modem to replace my SB4200, will they happily chuck one in the post to me or will I have to wait 3 months for an engineer to come around and install it? I'm perfectly capable of connecting 3 leads so I'd be happy to wait a couple of days to get it rather than a couple of months.

Ask them. I think it needs an engineer, though.

You will need an engineer I'm afraid because they will only replace the modem if they find a fault or you're not getting the full service...

Would 1Mb qualify as the full service for 10Mb?

Going by other complaints about Plymouth I wouldn't get too optimistic about it sorting things but couldn't hurt.

They will want to send an 'engineer' sadly.

Only reason they need to send an engineer is to make the call to activations to have the MAC address added to the network.

Can't see why they couldn't put the number in with a modem and ask you to do it, guess that's what they'll be doing with the 'self install' kits they're gonna be knocking out in the shops.

It's quite funny how much the speed tests fluctuate over time. This one (http://dedicated.janipewter.net/upload/speedtest.png) was done on the 19th of last month. Now only 2 weeks later, look what I get:

And no that screenshot ISN'T edited at all. I ran the speed test multiple times and it was reporting speeds between 10 and 15Mb.

The guy changed my modem the day he was here, i said it could possibly be due to the modem, he told me they have thousands of the old silver modems in store rooms where people have requested swap overs.

Did you get a new modem then, Jani?

I wasn't allowed a new modem so I cancelled and then signed upto a new contract and they gave me a self-install kit that includes a new modem (I got a Webstar EPC2100R2). No engineer visits and I'm getting the 10Meg that I was suppose to get in the first place.

So my problem was the modem.

Hope you got yours.
