Newbie here! Tearing my hair out.
I have 4mb NTL connection on 120 modem with Linsys WRT54G router (wired only).

I have a home network set up with 3 machines. 2 of the machines (all running XP) run at around 2.8mb and the 3rd runs at 3.9mb (tested on ntl homepage simple speed test). I have swapped around connections and moved machines - all combinations result in the same speeds.
They are all running static IP's.
It appears to be a software issue with the 2 slow machines, but what?
I have tried booting into safe mode and the speeds remain the same.
I have copied the settings from the fast machine to the slow and that hasn't helped.
Connecting the slower machine to the modem using dynamic IP resultas in the same speed, so it would seem router is OK.
All suggestions greatly received!!!!

Are the Ethernet cards in all the machines completely identical, with identical settings?

The machines are all Acer with on board network.
The settings are all the same as far as I can tell. I copied the registry settings from the fast to the slow machine, with no improvement.
Thinking that the network connection may be the problem, one of the slow machines now has a Belkin network card. But the speed on this machine has not changed!

NTL have now replaced modem and bingo - problem disappeared.

All other config unchanged and all machines now run at same speed!
