Hey, I got my old Terayon (sp?) changed to a NTL 250 modem last week. my speeds before were dropping with the terayon modem. ever since I got the new modem, my speeds have been crap. I am currently getting like 7kb/s download speed of ftp servers. websites also time out most of the time. I'm in Belfast. Can anyone can help me?

Speeds dropping points to something other than the modem, now that it has been replaced.

What's your setup? Operating system, firewall, hardware router etc? Also is your PC clean of anything that can cause network traffic? Have you got any software installed that might be affecting your speed or network settings?
What results do you get on the speed test at the top of the page and what are your results if you ping something like www.google.co.uk?

Do you see the speed drops if you remove the router from your setup? I would try direct connecting to the modem and then download a big file from a good server (SP2 is normally a good file to try) and see what happens.

nope. no change with the modem connected directly to the computer.

Have you tried since changing modem? Do you know what your signal levels are coming onto the modem?

I don't have another modem to try. it just says 'connected'.

I meant have you tried downloading a big file like SP2 from a guaranteed server without the router since changing to the 250?
