I would have thought the server load depended on the number of users multiplied by their posts-per-thread settings [+ a few other variables]

I have mine set to maximum so get fewer page loads ;-)
Exactly. Firefox's memory load seems to increase by roughly 1MB per page load [at least on my system, & still did it when I tried it in safe mode, so it can't be an extension causing it].

Sorry, I did think to add where I got them, but by then it had already been over the 3hr editing limit since I posted it.

Stargate SG-1 & Atlantis, Firefly, & RoboCop were all from ChoicesUK (http://www.choicesuk.com/), whereas Serenity I ordered from Amazon.

well done on the running.
Thanks. Going from an average of 25 mins to an hour in 1 "jump", as it were, has left me a little sore, but not too bad. I have to confess it's not running, more like a brisk walk. Whilst an hour is my time target, I'm still not at my distance target - last night was only 4.1k, as opposed to my target of 6.5k.

oh could you pm me your experence of this company please, when you get your DVDs?
No need to PM, have dealt with them before. They used to be called ChoicesDirect, & are the online equivalent of their Choices Video stores. Not had any probs that I can think of.

I'd love to get away for a couple of days, even with work.

Might happen soon. I have to go on a course run by Apple, and I don't know if it's at their offices in Ireland. If it is, my boss should hopefully spring for some bed and board. Sadly, I think it's in London. I don't have the details here, as they are at work.

We're coming to the end of the "redemption period" for the mortgage we took out 3 years ago, so went to have a review with our current provider this morning... one hour later and he had showed us how, thanks to the equity we've built up, we can reduce the term by 7½ years, thereby saving almost £75,000 over the full term.

That has made me smile a lot all day :)

I was depressed when he told us how little of the mortgage we'd paid off during the past 3 years... so this overall saving made me feel a lot better.

We had the option of paying less each month or shortening the term. We originally took out the loan based on just my salary - as my missus was only working part time - whereas now she's working full time. Which means we can luckily afford to go from a 30-year mortgage (minus the 3 years already paid) to a 20-year one... hence the saving.

Wouldn't have been possible at all if the housing market had crashed, so let's hope prices continue to rise a bit longer ;)

My car broke down today! :(
Why is that good news? Because it was showing all the signs of Tesco petrol poisoning, and my mechanic was having difficulty in locating the part it would have needed. On inspection it turns out to be the coil!
(Mind you if it had been the other problem, Tesco had agreed to pay for a hire car as I have to have a car for my job - so it's not quite good news!)

Yeah, I do it every now & then, but thankfully my current case has a filter for the front intake fan, so don't need to do the heatsink as often as I had to with the last case.

I usually unscrew the fan from the heatsink and hoover off the dust tbh
With my current CPU fan (http://www.dansdata.com/tmdfan.htm) I don't need to remove it to get at the dust. As the dust mostly tends to accumulate on top of the fins of my heatsink, rather than between them, I used a screwdriver to carefully hook out the larger clumps, then just blasted the rest out with a foot pump [used my hand to pump it though] & some little plastic nozzle adapter thing that came with it [got no other use for it as the pump fits my bike's tires just fine without it].

Reminds me of a time (about 4 years ago) when a friend came into work all excited because she'd seen a strange rodent-like creature in her garden. After a lot of googling, we came to the conclusion that she thought she saw a capybara (http://www.solutions-site.org/exhibits/images/capibara_5.jpg). The problem is that she lived in Catford, SE london. You don't get many exotic rodents in SE london. Rats, yes.

Oh, come on, it's not like Luton's entirely devoid of wildlife. Ok, so it has plenty, but I'm referring to the non-human variety. :p: There used to be plenty of ducks/geese/whatever [hey, it's been a few years since I lived in Luton, 21 actually] in that park next to the A6 (http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&z=17&ll=51.89304,-0.418575&spn=0.00249,0.010815&t=h&om=1), near Bath Road swimming pool [at least, there used be a pool there, again, long time since I was there].

hmm, I haven't been there (Wardown Park btw ;)) since carnival a couple of years ago - but there may have been a couple of white birds around... dunno what they were doing there! there's not much wildlife, and I just heard on the news that locals in 'mid-beds' (i.e. the countryside around all the towns like Luton and Bedford) are opposing the building of a new Centre Parcs! :Yikes: noooooo! that would be so ace! Bath Road pool is still open, amazingly. I'd have been more surprised if you said that about Bury Park. :D

Bath Road pool is still open, amazingly. They are still talking about where to put a new pool. I bet that was being discussed when you were here last!?
:erm: Not sure. I do remember it wasn't exactly "state of the art" when I used to go there - had to go with the school, they used to hire out a big [green?] double-decker to get us there.

Personally I preferred the 1 on Putteridge Road. It was a bit more up-to-date, & tended to be a bit warmer too.

ps. do you recall anything of Clophill (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clophill_Church), and in particular St Marys old church (http://bonowannabe.ghostlygateway.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=419.msg6290)? I've been reading up on it...

it's weird, people who live in Clophill tend to deny that there is anything weird about the place... I like it, it's a bit spooky, but then aren't most churches / graveyards? I shall continue trying to read up on it.

speaking of swimming - I can't wait to go again, wish there was somewhere more appealing in Luton! I always had a fear of the deep end at Bath Road.

Though I feel quite calm in the lagoon (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=hurghada&sll=53.098145,-2.443696&sspn=12.285107,29.619141&layer=&ie=UTF8&z=18&ll=27.209483,33.846774&spn=0.002218,0.005375&t=h&om=1) http://www.sunrisehotels-egypt.com/images/thumb/RH16.jpg at the hotel we go to in Hurghada

- until I realise how deep in the water I actually am!? https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2007/03/12.gif

anyways, my happy thought of the day is.. only 8 weeks til holiday! :D

Putteridge Road? I think it's called the Putteridge Centre, at least it was the last time I went, but that's not saying much considering the time-frame. At least the building still looks similarly shaped (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=putteridge+road+luton&sll=51.89304,-0.420763&sspn=0.00249,0.010815&layer=&ie=UTF8&z=18&ll=51.905374,-0.381973&spn=0.001244,0.005407&t=h&om=1) to what I remember.

I always had a fear of the deep end at Bath Road.
I must admit I did prefer the shallow end [actually I preferred to sneak into the kids pool next door if the teachers weren't looking, as it was warmer :)], but the thing that really put me off was the diving board. I've never been a fan of heights - took 1 look at the top board & said "sod that!". :Yikes: I remember I used the bouncy 1 once, though only when it was mounted at the side of the pool [as opposed to on the lowest fixed board, which I do recall seeing it mounted on at least once].

Hurghada
I hear there's a cream you can get for that these days. :p:

After getting my bits frozen off at the football yesterday I went to a comedy/magic night with Jerry Sadowitz as part of the Glasgow comedy festival.

In between the jokes, normal astounding tricks and abuse he performed the most amazing trick I've ever seen and I've absolutely no idea how he managed it.

He got someone to count cards off a deck and hold 6 in their hands and tightly close the hands around the cards. He then tapped their hands and got them to count out the cards again and this time they had 8.

Absolutely amazing and a top night. It more than made up for freezing half to death.

However, as TPTB couldn't decide between me & another workmate, it's only for three months, & then he'll have it for three months. They've already annoyed both of us, & the rest.

There was another guy in the running, but he got fed up & left last week.

The whole "Team Leader" thing has been ongoing for a year now...a phantom carrot dangled in front of us...

Was going to be sorted when we moved buildings in October, then after we hired more staff in November, then in the new year, & now it's delayed even further.

It is an opportunity to grasp & make the most of, imo, Tez - if for no other reason that it won't do you any harm when you update your CV. ;)

- congratulations :tu:

I've had the nasty dent removed from my car door for £75 from Dent Devils (http://www.dentdevils.co.uk/dentremoval.htm) and i recommend them to anyone as they came to my work and in 20 minutes it was gone as if just like magic with no filling or painting . :)

Was just on the phone to VM to pay my bill, & asked if there were any V+ offers on at the moment, but apparently there aren't. Then I remembered something a friend had told me, about the possibility of getting some sort of discount because I have STB, phone, & internet with them. I mentioned this to the guy, & at first he said he could do that, but it would mean dropping to the lowest broadband speed. Then he found some other info that said he could give me a discount of £10.50/month without me having to lose or reduce anything, which means I can have a V+ and be paying 50p/month less than what I am now. They're coming to install it on the 12th April. :D

I have found myself alone in the house for a few hours..a rare novelty..Now what shall I do?

A lovely foamy bubble bath?Put on some loud music and play it really, really loud whilst getting my arthritic joints to try and keep up to speed?Read a book?Get the chocolate out and find a really girlie movie on VOD?

Decisions, decisions! Might as well get the washing up out of the way and get some washing in the machine first....then there's the dusting, hoovering, ironing and unpacking the shopping...

You can bet your last quid that if I sit down I'll be snoring my head off in no time though.;)

Dunno whether this should be altogether a 'happy thought', but I had the first 'proper' go in our new car, today - unfortunately it was to take Mrs Gaz to Manchester airport for an Easter break in Portugal. So I'm 'homealone' for a week....

However, focusing on the 'happy' side, Its a Honda Civic 1.8 Vtec & drives extremely well - I chose the A616 route to Manc, 'cos of the mix of motorway & twisty bits & I was very impressed.
