Got cable modem and set top box in opposite sides of the room, and i'm thinking of having a shift around. Both cables run from a splitter out of the original cable from outside. If I was to move the stuff around do both the modem and the set top box use the same kind of cable? Could I use the longer cable I have for the modem instead of the set top box and vice versa with no performance issues?

:welcome: to the forum.

Yes they use the same cable and you should be able to swap them over.

Nice, I've already tried the tv with it and that worked fine, I was more concerned about losing speeds on the modem with the longer cable, though if they are the same then it should be ok.

All you can do is try but i don't think you will have a problem. Make sure you screw the cables in tight(not to tight) or you might run into some problems with bad connections. :)
