My NTL Home 100 will not work on Ethernet so I got a spare NTL Home 120 off ebay. The ethernet light is on but just get Server not Found. Is it possible to do something to make it work at another location. Cheers Dave

try the old ipconfig /release and then /renew, to force your PC into re-establishing an IP addy etc?

Many thanks to such a fast response from DABhand but beyond my knowledge, is that switch off for 24 hours or does it involve changing settings.
Cheers
Dave

Isn't going to work. Your modem is registered to your connection, only NTL can change this. In fact, you're effectively using a stolen modem because it's NTL property not really meant to be sold on ebay, and also, it's against T+Cs to use equipment ntl haven't supplied you.

You need to contact ntl to get the 100 changed if it's faulty.

Send that modem back to the ebay seller because Virgin Media could actually fine you for using stolen equipment. The only legit way of replacing a modem is through Virgin Media I'm afraid.

What he said, although i don't think you would get a fine. If the Ethernet port isn't working phone Virgin and they will send an engineer out to replace your modem. :)

Its a known problem on the 100 and 120 modems that the eternet is faulty:)

What do you think would happen if they found out you were using stolen equipment?

He would find his connection no longer works ;)

When he explains he bought it on eBay they will just say what we've told him i think. :)

Most people probably haven't got a clue that a Cable Modem is tied to their account and will only work if it's activated by Virgin.

Sorry I was talking about his 100 modem, not the 120 :\

Shoulda made it clearer in the post.

Thanks to everyone who posted a reply, everyone has to learn, and that is exactly what I've done.
I now know any other modem is useless, and someone took me for a few quid on ebay (unless they knew as little as me).
I have a little more about the workings and activation.
Virgin Media are sending out an engineer to swap out the modem 100 not 120 of course). I wonder if Richard will drop him off in his hot air balloon. I just hope they don't arrest me at the same time.

Cheers to all
Dave
