The address is: news.cable.virginmedia.com (no user or pass). They don't have every group (I.E. Download Groups). Speeds are fast but not as good as a premium service.

Well you can use www.newzbin.com and as for a newsgroup downloader (known as a newsreader or newsgroup reader) I use Grabit (http://www.shemes.com/) (It is FREE). I am sure there is better ones. Maybe a quick look on Google (http://www.google.com/search?q=newsgroup+reader) and Softpedia (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/News-Newsgroups-Blog-Tools/) may help you find one you like.

DarkGashX

Not that I know of. By global do you mean lists all of the groups content?

Quite incorrect concerning speeds, DarkGashX.

- They provide One week's retention on Binary servers.
- You'll need a program called Quickpar - http://quickpar.org.uk
- You'll need a program called WinRar - http://www.rarlab.com
- You'll also need a reader. I recommend GrabIt - http://shemes.com

http://binsearch.info is by far the best in primary and indeed advance searching. Be exact and it'll be your best friend. Yet it also offers a very nice ability to read the binary servers like an indexing site - Collecting all the seperate .rar files into one easy click.

DarkGashX

Incorrect how? I didn't tell him how to open the files after he has downloaded them just "How to download things". He did say "Open these" but I didn't know what formats he was planning to get ;).

And yes, you can use that site too if you wish the one I provided does the same thing but might not be as good ;).

And no, I dont think ntl (VM) has a "global" page.

EDIT: Another person to recommend Grabit :).

Seems to be free. Update List Full--Hard to say on that one. What are you doing to get that message?

binsearch is very poor use newzbin its only 25 p per week. Do a group search and simply filter out the groups you can access on the newzbin site download your nzbs and import into newsreader couldnt be simpler

doesnt news.ntlworld.com work anymore?

edit just tried it in newsbin reader and that address is fine

How is Binsearch poor, Zinglebarb?

I type in exactly what I want and it apears for free. I can search servers as indexing sites for free.

...NZB's are freely available. And the pay sites don't even offer searchable servers in indexing format.

The only thing maybe Binsearch lacks is asthetics.

zing_deleted
12-02-2007, 09:12
well when I looked its was no where near as complete as newzbin which also allows you to search usenet raw so you virtually see the files as soon as there posted un indexed.

ok ill shoot ya with an example

on bin search search for heiress this will come up with 2 files posted to dvdrcore
This post is complete on the dvdrcore group list on easynews

it is not yet indexed on newzbin but it is complete on the raw search

oh yeah your totally incorrect on the group search newzbin v3 has a jump to newsgroup option on the left hand side as does version 2 so your wrong :)

Illuminist
12-02-2007, 09:27
Erm... maybe because its early in the morning... but if its complete on Binsearch and its free unlike NewzBin, indeed not listed on NewzBin... isn't Binsearch proving my point?

...If you want to pay for NZB's its fine by me, mate. :)

zing_deleted
12-02-2007, 09:34
no it is on newzbin newzbin has a raw search
I dont care whether its alright by you or not I spend a lot of time refining what I do .Do you actually think I dont seek out free options first? do you consider me a noob? I bought a years subs for newzbin christmas it cost me 5 pound 40 p. its normally 25p per week and its a lot more complete so your point is not proven

ok another example Looker on dvdrcore group searched on binsearch found 3 files
On newzbin complete
on easynews complete
posted 7th Feb

The emphasis of ''fine'' was a figure of speach - Don't take it to heart.

You like NewzBin... I like BinSearch...

zing_deleted
12-02-2007, 10:11
Binsearch is not a match for Newzbin fact end of and 25 p a week for quality isnt to much

Richy99
12-02-2007, 10:29
the advantdage that newzbin has over binsearch is that you can browse groups and categories if you are not sure what you want, if you know what you want then a direct search is fine, i like to see whats available for download tho

Woah woah.

Binsearch and Newzbin both suck.

Newzbin = Have to pay, **** that, login and see what you WANT to download.
Binsearch = Not many groups, hardly updated.

I usually look on newzbin for what I want, then get the nzb from www.nzbindex.nl, its free and seems to hardly be behind newzbin.

Only use there site to basically look at a list of movies, I use their "other (www.newzxxx.com)" site for "other (www.newzxxx.com)" things which is free.

Oh and for TV nzb's, nowhere faster than tvnzb (www.tvnzb.com), which is free and basically puts tv searches on binsearch, nzbindex and newzbin to shame.

well I just checked a group & retention was a week - and completion 100% :Yikes:

- obviously retention is better on the dedicated sites, but it is a while since I've seen 100% completion in a group ;)

Up until the pure sh*ty completion a good few months ago with NTL... binary groups were 99% complete regardless, HomeAlone - Even premium UseNet providers don't market 100% completion.

I won't bother emphasizing Binsearch or NewsLeech, Zan.

I used to be able to get really old (>= 100days old posts) from the Virginmedia news server but recently nothing older than 7 days downloads. I also used to get the incomplete downloads issue (which is on another thread,) even though the server showed a complete post. Are these issues likely to have been linked?

:)

Ignitionnet
14-11-2009, 08:47
The 7 days retention is intentional configuration on the news server it's not broken. That's all you get as a Virgin subscriber regardless of how high the server retention is. Regrettably if you want to leech stuff older than that you have to pay :)
