Remember thought 10mb = 10MB/8 = 1.25MB/s :) give or take a few KB/s :P

1st 512K took 5328 ms = 96.1 KB/sec, approx 792 Kbps, 0.77 Mbps
2nd 512K took 1203 ms = 425.6 KB/sec, approx 3507 Kbps, 3.42 Mbps
3rd 512K took 813 ms = 629.8 KB/sec, approx 5190 Kbps, 5.07 Mbps
4th 512K took 812 ms = 630.5 KB/sec, approx 5195 Kbps, 5.07 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 3671 Kbps, 3.58 Mbps

Weird thing is 10mb is 1.25mb/s. Speed tests always show me at 9.6mb yet I sometimes download at 1.2mb/s. Very strong service here though.

sheera67 -- What modem do you have?

modem is a motorola sb5101e surfboard

ISP's and speedtests generally show your Internet speed in kilobits or megabits per second, whereas browsers and P2P applications will show your current throughput in kilobytes or megabytes per second. A byte consists of eight bits...so I'll let you figure the rest out ;)

I pretty much explained it all in the post anyway :)

But basically, you're on 10Mb (megabits per second)(or 10240 kilobits per second to be precise), therefore the theoretical max you can download at is 10 megabits per second, which is the same as 1.25 megabytes per second, though it's unlikely to ever reach that speed because life isn't perfect (in other words, noise etc on the line causes degradation in signal transmission).

Same with all other connections...4Mb (4096 kilobits per second) divided by 8 = 512 kilobytes per second.

2Mb (2048 kilobits per second) divided by 8 = 256 kilobytes per second.

sheera, have you tried a speed test without a firewall, as some CF'ers have found this often appears to slow down your link; also, have you tried changing Proxy server?

Here are some alternate speed test sites
www.speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net)
http://resources.zdnet.co.uk/speedtest/

Good luck.

If the image you want to show is only available on your computer, you cannot use the [IMG] tags. These tags only work if the image is available online. You put the address between the two tags. Eg [img ]http: //your.webserver.com/yourimage.jpg[ /img] would show an image called "yourimage.jpg" whih is stored on your.webserver. Note, to stop the forum software interpreting that as an actual image, I inserted spaces into the tags.

If you need to show images, and don't have space on the web, use the "Manage Attachments" option on the advanced post editing page (click "Go Advanced").

Also, regarding your speed, do you get broadband through a cable modem, or set top box? If it's a set top box, you'll need to get NTL to install a cable modem to increase the speed. Looking at your location, you probably have a cable modem.

Also dont forget sheera, you will not ALWAYS get top speed, some servers/people cant send at your top speed. So bear that in mind.
