Sad, but they've got very little major sport to broadcast these days.

I love sport but I can't justify the expense of the various sports channels, thankfully Radio Five Live and Five Live Xtra do a fantastic job of covering most things.

As the report says, "It has outlived its time".

All good things must come to an end.

I used to be an avid viewer years ago, but tbh I can't remember the last time i watched it, except for the football results maybe.

It looks like the beeb will move into the digital age in this area finally, fast forwarded (almost) by our friend from down under.

sky sports news is much more lively on a saturday, with the blokes sitting round watching the football and commenting on it all and ribbing each other and especially Chris Kamara! Grandstand was just so dull. why would anyone want to watch bowls/gym stuff/ice skating/darts etc. - methinks if they only had 4 or 5 channels and no access to anything else. thankfully I am not one of them. good riddance. motd / football on beeb is only entertaining when they let Ian Wright er, express himself! :)

What exactly is a grandstand anyway?

What exactly is a grandstand anyway?

It's a very good veiw of a sporting event, normally in a stadium

I thought it was a big stand, like you get at the races? Not the actual view itself?

It is but it leads directly to the saying 'grandstand view' which is presumably what the BBC intended when they named the show
