Does anyone know when the PS3 first started being available for preorder with Play and amazon?

I wouldn't bother now, it would be a waste of time. Manufacturers like Game etc. They like their units to be on the streets where people can see them. Call your local Game store or Gamestation store, they are your best bet.

Not worth putting it on fleabay either, the console is just not selling anyway.
It'll be interesting to see what price the PS3s go for on fleabay, as they are so expensive to start with. The Wiis and 360s both went for at least double the RRP, so any takers for a PS3 at a grand?
Just had email from Game, saying 23rd March is the day Sony release PS3's, so mines on pre-order.

I will be very hissed off if that does happen soon after by full price preorder. :mad:
You never know, mate, maybe they'll do like MS did when they dropped the price of the XBox, and give you some complementary gifts to soften the blow ;)

You couldnt be more wrong yet again. I only browse the PS3 forums now to see how much bull**** is posted about it. The Inquirer is the worst news source ever. They cant even read there own links they post in there articals, as it states "220,000 launch day PS3s for UK retail", yet The Inquirer are stating Europe. Im not sure what you think the 222,000 units are for but thats for the UK and not Europe.
Yes, the 220K is for the UK not for the entire continent :D Also saw an interview with the Sony UK head honcho saying he was going down on bended knee to try and get some more allocated to his region.
That's already quite an impressive amount for just the UK. If I had pre-ordered with the intention of re-selling at a premium on fleabay, I'd be wondering whether to cancel my pre-order right now.
It'll be interesting to see how many sell straight away. If I was thinking of getting one, however, all this talk of imminent price cuts would make me hesitant. How many people will take the risk and wait for more games to be released and a possible price cut?

Save your money cause they are not worth it. every game has a code on it and you can't swap games with your mates cause the games only work on one PS3. the price for one PS3 in uk is £750. if you get one on ebay then watch out. make sure it does play in the uk cause the american versions don't work here. you have been warned!:Yikes:

I thought as much, as games are read only media, so there's no physical way of doing this. I wanted to give him the chance to explain it though.

I agree that there not worth it but you're talking 100% rubbish!
Just saw the point about the US imports... what utter boll*cks - plenty of people have them working fine - the games aren't even region locked, although the BR films are (but having a Region 1 locked drive isn't really a bad thing).
If anything, be wary of Japanese imports because of the in-game censorship for certain Japanese games. There's a thread about it over at AV Forums, if anyone's interested.

Apparently they can't afford to drop the price during the year because they're not selling as well as they'd hoped, especially compared to the competitors (with such a stupid price, who can disagree?)
It cost them so much to make it - and make a hash of it - that they are actually losing a lot of money.

Less than a month ago, the Wii was reported to be outselling the PlayStation 3 by two to one in Japan--this week, the gap has widened even further, and Nintendo's console is now selling more than four units to every PlayStation 3 sold in the country.
Media Create has released figures for the week of January 22 to 28 that show the Wii sold 83,754 units, compared to 19,996 for the PS3. The week's overall top seller was the Nintendo DS Lite with 194,526, followed by the Wii, with the PlayStation Portable at three with 35,700. The PlayStation 2 was outselling the PS3 last week, with 20,995 units shifted.
Even though Sony are losing money on each console they sell, they need to shift the things so that they can recoup these losses and eventually make huge profits via game licensing and mass, immediate adoption of Blu-Ray.
They lose even more money on the consoles that are just sitting on shelves.
I think a price cut in Japan has to be imminent.

Just pre-ordered my PS3, bound to be someone to sell it on too, apparently the local Game store will have all pre-orders accounted for tomorrow morning.
Altho the Game manager also said the UK was only getting 90k of Consoles, dunno where he gets his info from.

I was actually thinking of getting one of these machines until all the so called exclusive ps3 only titles started jumping ship and landing on the 360...Sony have well and truly messed up big time with this thing and its a sad day when a consoles predecessor outsells it! especially one thats been out donkey years like the ps2. I am sticking with my 360 as i have yet no reason to get a ps3 until Final Fantasy Crystal Novalis comes out for it, but with any luck square enix will wake up and jump ship on to the 360 as well so saving me a bundle in the long run :D

Yeah, while i am a bit of a 360 fan, i'm also a bit of a gadget fan, and try to own everything!
It's a bit surprising as the local Game store here will be sold out by now of all it's pre-orders. I got in at 15th in the queue. Although, still not decided if i will keep or sell.
game, where my PS3 is now officially on pre-order, after taking £50 as a deposit, now say that you need to spend a minimum of £550 on the pick up day to go on the pre-order list?
call me stupid or what, but I've accepted this, and the guy behind the counter said they (game) were expecting each customer to purchase a minimum of two games per machine, and accessories to bring the minimum spend to £550 (does not matter if the bill is higher on the day) as long as it's £550 minimum.
It seems there are 11 people in front of me so far, so I'll see on the 23rd of march what happens instore, and report back here.
Good luck to everyone else out there wanting/getting one.

i was playing on the PS3 today at a friends shop and i know im goping to sound like a fan boy for the 360 but i didint see much difference.
For the monbey the 360 with its live capability is much better. Also gives you the decision as to whether to upgrade to hd-dvd or not. I have and its brilliant.

Did you miss the lack of vibration in the controllers?
It's not enough to convince me to buy one, but Sony are giving away a free BR copy of Casino Royale to the first 500,000 people to register their PS3s after the European launch.
