whilst rumours persist of the PS3's launch being delayed play.com has stated that they are confident of its march release:

"We're confident that Sony will meet the March release date," Play.com's senior games buyer, Gian Luzio, told us. "There are always scare stories about slippage but Sony has been reliable in the past and until we hear differently from Sony directly we believe a level of stock will be ready for launch."

meanwhile at CES 2007, SCEA's marketing guru insists a march date is still on the cards:

"They're [SCEE] set for March release and looking forward to it," he said.

a march 30th release is being the most likely at the moment.

slimmer, not just because of this announcement but clearly demand in the US has subsided hugely, inventory is readily available, so unless sony have not done a 'ramp up' of PAL units i see the march date being reality.....for now.

Quite intrested about the lack of PS3 sales in America. I mean they did not have much at launch day and now, they still have not sold out. I want to know more information about that but its looks like a dreadful start for the PS3 which it really did not need

Also if they cant shift units, Its most likely because of the high price tag. I see that coming down soon to boost sales.

Good to see Nintendo doing well though

it is the price in part, the xbox360 has a $200 advantage over the PS3 20GB version and a $300 over the 60GB version, the games dont really look that much better, earlier on i was looking at videos of motorstorm and it looks nowhere near the game that was shown previously at E3 2005, just sony using video not actual footage of in-game action!

Good to see Nintendo doing well though

i thought it would do well but i didnt anticipate the sellouts still raging on, even as supply has picked up a bit in the new year there are still instant sellouts!

The price will dictate this. Its very expensive and it might lose out unless they cut prices.

Exactly, Which they may have to do quickly if they do not want to become the 3rd place console on the market

launch slips to april with details to follow on friday:

What are the goals for this year for PlayStation?
Stringer: I think it's 6 million units by the end of the quarter, worldwide. And then we have got the European launch in April, which is very important to us.

March 23rd is probably the date and a cost of £425 for the 60gig version. What a waste of money when you can get something far better in my opinion for cheaper. I just think Sony have shot themselves in the foot by removing the vibration in the controllers and a few other things. :(

They didnt remove the vibration by choice. Microsoft bought the patented vibration rights for exclusive use. (least that how I understood it)

But I do agree, with the current price point the way it is, Sony are shotting themselves in the foot.

I read somewhere Sony (http://www.pro-g.co.uk/news/09-05-2006-2756-1.html) saying they removed it because it wouldn't work with the sixaxis movement, although i was under the impression it was a copout from them having lost the previous court case with Immersion (http://www.engadget.com/2005/03/27/sony-forced-to-stop-selling-dual-shock-controllers/) where they had to pay them $90.7 million,and suspect they don't want to pay Immersion anymore millions for licencing the dual shock. Nintendo was in the same boat, but they came up with their own vibration design to avoid paying Immersion. Microsoft coughed up the $ so that's why we have vibration on the Xbox 360 this time.

Yep, the whole Immersion thing is what I read too, SnoopZ. Sony didn't want to pay whereas MS did.

Ahh... so thats how the story went.

Sony dosnt like to cough up the bling, but dont mind charging an insane amount for a next gen console. They really are greedy aint they... :Yikes:

Yeah, just saw that the UK gets the sh*tty end of the stick again when it comes to PS3 pricing...

Americans pay $599 for a 60GB PS3, but in Europe:

* Ireland - €629 for 60GB (that’s $815)
* Europe - €499 for 20GB / €599 for 60GB (that’s $775)
* UK - £425 for 60GB (that’s €647 or $838)
* Australia - AU$830 for 20GB / AU$999 for 60GB (that’s €608 or $787)

Nice one, Sony :rolleyes:
