Have just had NTL installed - 2 for £20 with broadband and basepack TV. Problem is our set top box randomly stops responding to the remote control - it can still be operated by using buttons on box so not completely hung. I have looked at these boards and followed instructions to reboot box (via OK & <> and turn power off) to no avail. If the box has frozen we normally have to wait with it off overnight, then the remote will work in the morning!

Was working fine this evening (chrimbo day), had good browse on BBCi (smarter than freeview) and then used mini guide to scroll thru stations, when it got to FilmFlex, there was text underneath saying (from memory so might not be exactly) "Searching for preview ...". Seems as if this caused box to hang as couldnt scroll of this station and now remote not working!

Got engineer coming out next year but wondering if we have dodge box or is it software problem?

Cheers for any help ...

If the front-panel buttons work but the remote doesn't, it's very likely that infrared interference is to blame. The interference drowns out the signals from the remote.

Possible sources of interference are plasma or LCD TVs, energy-saving or fluorescent bulbs, direct sunlight, or PCs with IR ports enabled. If you have a LCD TV, adjusting the backlight may help. Other than that, it's a case of rearranging things or shielding the IR receiver on the box so it doesn't pick up the interference.

Please cancel the call-out if you solve the problem.
