Hi All,

I wonder if someone / anyone can help, I have called NTL BB Support at least 7 times regarding the fact that since I upgraded to 4MB from 2MB my downloads have dropped to 1.5 MB on a good day and sometimes 0.8 or less on a bad day.

Despite the calls they are adamant there is nothing wrong with my modem / connection and have told me on many occasions there are currently works in my area that will be fixed by such and such a time and that at present my connection is routed differently hence the congestion slowing it.

I have an NTL 120 Modem and am in Lewisham South East London.

I have pasted below the latest test results from the NTL Speedtest:

Mon, 27 Nov 2006 11:01:25 GMT

1st 512K took 3625 ms = 141.2 KB/sec, approx 1163 Kbps, 1.14 Mbps
2nd 512K took 3203 ms = 159.9 KB/sec, approx 1318 Kbps, 1.29 Mbps
3rd 512K took 2890 ms = 177.2 KB/sec, approx 1460 Kbps, 1.43 Mbps
4th 512K took 3641 ms = 140.6 KB/sec, approx 1159 Kbps, 1.13 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 1275 Kbps, 1.25 Mbps

Not good I think!

Im grateful for any help / advice.

Have you checked the operational configuration of your modem to check that they have actually reconfigured the cap properly on your sacm?

browse to 192.168.100.1

login as root/root

Check Operational Config, what is your Max upstream and downstream data rates?

I have been experiencing the same thing. 1.5Mbps is as good as it gets on my 4Mbps connection.

I am on the 10Mb service and when I migrated from set-top box to SACM the cap in the modem config was set to 4Mb. If I hadn't noticed this and pointed it out to tech support they would have continued to charge me a 10Mb price for a 4Mb service so it's definitely worth checking. They did however give me 3 months free subs as a good will gesture.

Downstream: 4096000 bps
Upstram: 400000 bps

Its a mystery.....

Sounds like you need to experiment with the proxy dance then. Good luck.
