Hello all

I had an engineer out today because my 10MB service drops to less than 0.5MB frequently after lunch and all evening. He changed the modem and ran several tests and the left saying it was a network issue and it would be looked into. Anyone know what will happen next or is that it....will I ever get a stable connection.

Thanks

PS. It was fine untill 2 days ago....always getting around 9.8MB

My connection has also been painfully slow since lunchtime on Monday. I have rung ntl everyday since and have been told there are local network problems. By the way I'm in a WD postcode.

I have just got off the phone to them again and have been told that the engineers are working on it and that the time for completion is tomorrow morning.

I've also had my BB bill reduced to half price (£17.99) for the next three months because of this problem and am now using a Cardiff proxy, which gives me near perfect speed.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Im in Glasgow G43 and im having a problem also.

Done a few tests and its seems my connection goes at full speed for about 20 seconds and then drops totally for about a second, this just continues.

Its a pain in the ass, think ill be phoning ntl when i get in from work today if the problem is still there.

Here are my latest speed test results taken today in HP21 at 12:35

They look very good.

The problem is in the evening, thats when I get 56K dial up speeds on a 10MB service. Personally I suspect its over subscription causing the problem but NTL won't admit to that.

When i came in from work i checked and was still getting about 4MB on all the tests i done. So i called ntl up.

The woman went through a few things and told me to download netguard from the ntlworld site. She asked me the download rate, it was about 900kbs so she told me to cancel it, then told me my connection was 8.5 - 9meg which is fine and to phone back if i got any more trouble. I told her that i have been having trouble for about a week. She said everything was fine.

had my dinner and i have since done a few speed tests, and on average this is what im getting

Speed Test Results

Downstream 9,021.1 Kbps ( = 8.8 Mbps )
Upstream 478.6 Kbps ( = 0.5 Mbps )

so seems to be not to bad now, better than the 4meg i was getting :D

I wont hold my breath though lol!!!

Ok...I've been on the phone again tonight to Customer Services (CS) and this time the guy at the end of the phone bothered to look up and read all the details about my earlier calls a couple of days ago.

He got me to do a few more tests after confiring with Level 2 support. He eventually accepted there is a problem.

The problem appears to be with any website other than the NTL home site.

Level 2 Support have now escalated the problem to there Networking techies (Level 3 support I assume) and they will be calling me back in a couple of days.

The main point is that NTL have admited the problem is with their network.

I also discovered that NTL CS is based in India.....Typical.

Hmmm.... I'm in HP5 (Chesham) and have been seeing slow speeds and frequent dropouts for 3 weeks. In that time I've had 3 engineer visits (last time the connection was stable while the engineer was in the house, then dropped out 20 minutes after he left and proceeded to go on again-off again for the rest of the evening (8:15 to 11:45 pm) before finally settling down at the time I was ready to go to bed....

I'm not at all happy.
