To repeat this test from the source server (and further depress yourself at the thought of how much you are paying for a "service") click here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/paul.marsden/newspeedtest.html?1163956383140).

Fu**ing astounding!! Does anyone know any other ways of throwing money down the drain?

I tend to stay away from web based speed tests as the file is so small you don't really get a true speed test.

Same as yours my friend and using the Entanet network.
Give this a try and let us know your speed please.

I'm getting between 160-170 KB/Sec.

I'm on 4 Meg service. What do you think?

Great find dranny.
If I must use a web based test I use
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp
or
http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/

Still trying to find a good true download test, apologies.

Orrrr

How about NTL pull their thumb from their rears and stop having a right handed session and actually sort the network out, before they think about higher speeds.

Fu**ing astounding!! Does anyone know any other ways of throwing money down the drain?

Forgive me, but you just brightened up my evening with your humour!!  best laugh I've had for a while. (I know what you mean about NTL speeds!)

10mb  my hairy rear, there is more chance of me being prime minister
and married to Jessica Alba with Jennifer Ellison as my bit on side, then there is
of that ever hitting 10mb since those 20mb trials I've barely seen about 8mb.

speeds tests proove nothing anyway. You need to test with a multi threaded download manager and a good server.

so you think your speed loss is down to the 20 meg tests then? No one could have the tests anywhere near me then cuz off easynews I always hit 10 meg and nntp with giganews I always get over 9.Ok today ive had a flakey proxy but nothing that couldnt be sorted

I am noting that the drop in my speed occurred asap those tests started.

Erm I think deathball defo has something amiss there, 40mb connection but only getting 140 ms pings er yer ok!. they should be well down to 18ms at that speed. Even my 10mb gets 93ms on the test.

P.s look I have a faster cache then you!, ;)

Ssshhh, don't tell ntl you're getting full speed or they'll flick a switch.

I'm on the 10MB and my speeds for the past two days have been painfully slow. This is the result of a speed test done just before posting here 235 kbps down and 479 kbps up.

What's the title of this thread again, Hooray! for NTL 10mb.

You're 'aving a laugh.

But there are no 20 meg trials on now ?. I am under the impression that everyone is back on 10 meg.

That sounds much like my connection. If I go on at about 6am it's fine but 7pm at night and I may as well be on dialup.

An engineer callout resulted in the CATV connector being changed???

I have been told that my cable and UBR is oversubscribed.

I would normally just bin it and get someone else in, but £125 install charge for a BT phone line is on the steep side. Is there anyone in NTL this can be raised to?

And to stay on topic... thanks to setting a proxy I can browse normally again now... thought I'd gone back to dial up for a while.

I set mine explicitly to Cardiff 5. works better than the dial-up speeds i was getting, but nowhere near 10meg

believe it or not, the internet is still damn awful otherwise for speed :(
I've tried a few different proxies, but have settled for Edinburgh's 2nd one - seems to be best so far.
