are you sure you have the correct power supply into the modem?? are you doing speed tests thru a router?? if so you wont get your 10 meg at all

does the ethernet card have a 10/100 interface & is it setup to use 'full duplex' for the connection?

There is no way to upgrade your modems software only NTL can do that as and when they release it. As for your poor speeds are you using a router?

If so try plugging in the modem directly to your PC and run a speed check this will either identify the router as the cause or it will rule it out!

If you do not have a router...

I see your already connected via Ethernet so that is not the problem, what firewall/antivirus software are you using?

Try disabling it or removing it. If your still only getting 5MB then it may be your Ethernet card or congestion in your area.
