View Full Version : NTL is causing the slow connections and downloads

I did a traceroute through Easnews.com's network trace utility and you can see that the reason for the slow downloads is NTL - something is either (a) wrong at the point of entry to the NTL server or (b) it is being blocked by NTL or slowed down by NTL - as a result a 4MB connection is slower than a dialup connection.

The router most likely responsible for your slow downloads in owned by ntl.com.

I have no problem here using easynews trace to my ip

It may be the case that there is some problem on this side of NTL - the problem is not on my end. It is somewhere in between.

Try Rerouting using Easynews's routing tool, I find Level 3 is generally best with Easynews from NTL.

Had some really strange issues with easynews this weekend. I can generally max my 10mb connection, but i need to hit it with like 20 connections. 1 single connection to easynews downloads at around 80kbps. I dunno what the hell's going on.

I have tried re-routeing, the route selector keeps timing out - like it cant contact the other networks, or something.

It will PROBABLY be ok again tomorrow, but this kind of thing is getting really annoying. Easynews just say it's not there problem - and to a point a believe them. I was in America 2 weeks ago, and it was so nice to see a single connection jump instantly to over 1300kbps. Why are we needing to put 15+ connetions on to download something?

Also, ive had a similar problem with gamespot for as long as i can remember. im a paid member, and i cant watch the 700k streaming videos. Some time's i struggles with 300k videos. Im going off topic a bit now, but id imagine it's a similar issue. if im only getting 200k per stream from gamespot - it's similar to Easynews, only i cant hit gamespot with more threads or re-route.

I get the same sometimes, and also recently its taken over 20 connections to get the full 20 mb from Easynews, it used to take 4 to get full 10 meg so something has changed somewhere.

I'm inclined to blame the usual dodgy peering from NTL, Gamespot has always been bad here, yet on a much lower speed DSL connection I can stream easily, in fact a 4 meg DSL connection outperforms a 20mb NTL connection when it comes to certain peered sites and streaming in this area.

Due to Ntl's annoying "not very transparent" cache servers you need to use SSL in order to get a route change to work at EN.

I too have had to go to 20 slots but can only max out in the early hours of the morning.
