Hi,

We currently have the computer and NTL modem in our spare room (soon to be a nursery), but wish to move it all to our loft room. It's a fully boarded out loft room so a bit more work is needed than just drilling through the ceiling in the spare room.

Can I get NTL to move the cable into the loft room? I'd be willing to pay, but would want some proper installers who know what they are doing to come round, rather than the usual contracted out monkeys. In fact when we first had this installed, we did want it in the loft room but the tw*ts who came round to install it refused.

What's the best number to call to arrange this, as I don't fancy calling a scripted Indian call centre and trying to explain to them about boarded out loft rooms! :erm:

Or would it be better to avoid NTL altogether and employ a specialist cable/Aerial fitting service?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Graham M

It would be best to get in connect with NTL Customer Services to arrange this.

You could get the kit from this place and do it yourself http://www.mediachannels.co.uk/usefullkits.htm .

Its proper kit, don't let those sky guys tell you their standard stuff will cut the mustard as its just not up to the job.

It would probably be a good idea to not use the phrase 'contracted out monkeys' in the conversation though...

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, probably best not to use the phrase 'contracted out monkeys' ;) Although I've had bad experiences with both previous installs - first one (in a different house) came round and the modem didn't work as he had fitted the adapter the wrong way round (cue his supervisor turning up to fix the problem and having a right go at him in front of me. It was hilarious). Second one - turned up at about 10 in the morning stinking of booze, refused to install it into the loft room, then b*ggered off as quickly as possible!

I'm hesitant to call customer services as I really don't want to try and explain what i need doing to an Indian call centre - I've had bad experiences with that too, involving me paying for 10 Meg, but receiving 1Meg for a while, as they couldn't understand what i was trying to explain to them on the phone.:dozey:

Just to confirm Customer Services are not in India (atm anyway)

You could do what we had done where NTL put the cable along the side of the house and up under the eves in the roof.
They will charge you for the work though.

In that case I'll give Customer Services a call. It must have been tech support in India.

Interesting stuff - wish I knew what it all meant so I could see the possibilities.
is there a doc (or docs) you could point me at....
TIA,

All I did was ask an ntl guy doing another install nearby if he could knock up an extension cable for me. "Sure, how long?"
Five minutes and a few beer vouchers later I have a 20m cable to put where I like...

Just send me a pm with what you wanna do and I'll advise you what you need to get. I used to work for ntl in tech support.

nice NTL employees have helped me out, recently, too :tu:

I'm hoping similar links can be built with telewest and , eventually, Virgin :)

Then you would know the isses caused by people doing DIY installations and the problems it causes.
