Well I have just ran a test form that link supplied and I get the exact same result, and I am on 10meg so I would try another if I was you.

I agree.

I am on 4mb, in Leeds, using Hudds proxy - I tried your link, and it said my speed was 2 megabits

I then tried www.speedtest.net (http://www.speedtest.net) and got this

I have yet to dl anything above 3mb... I suppose the NTL100 modem might have something to do with it... though I do use ZoneAlarm which apparently slows things down...

Well, you just got a 50% increase in speed.:D

I would try a couple more speed tests over the period of a couple of hours, to qualify the consistency.

What firewall are you using? As stated in an earlier post, some people find ZoneAlarm can slow things down.

I dont think zonealarm slows anything down IMO.

I think you have to completely remove it to stop it degrading the speed, disabling it doesn't help.

Instructions here (http://nh2.nohold.net/noHoldCust25/Prod_1/Articles55646/CompleteUninstallNonNT.html)...

You can always download the latest version & install it again if you don't think the performance increase is worth it...

I only had zone alarm installed recently and the internet speed was the same as it is now..... Displaying 2 meg.... Only when i discovered that i could upgrade to 4mb that i thought something is wrong due to the fact i was already on 4meg....

Still i dont think zone alarm is the prolbme since the speed determind by the speed test are the same as before when i didnt have ZA.

i hear zonealarm can change the speed result and as some have said removing it totally is only way to get a good result worth a go why not try speed test here at CF http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/speed.php

My Ntl bills state that I am also on 4mb following free upgrades but to be honest I cannot notice any difference from when I was on 1mb. I have started doing speed tests and all them give my download speed between 170 and 330 kbps, which is ridiculously low surely? Think I may as well go back to dial up! Have since tried www.speedtest.net and it confirms download 294kbps, upload 343kbps.

I have not altered any settings to my knowledge and can't believe the poor results but whatever I try I cannot get any higher readings.

Got the same here but on 10Meg. For the last 1-2 weeks its been poor, downloads speeds of 90k~170k and slow browsing, games having lag etc etc

The 1 meg ADSL i have in work from Eclipse is quicker browsing and d/l speeds of 100k which is expected...

BTW if this can add anything the TV downstairs (Although on a diff bill. Old man has NTL Digital on his own bill, i have a Phone and Internet on my bill as i have been with NTL since 1999) which has NTL Digital sometimes pauses, you be watching the footy and you will get a 1/2 second pause in picture and sound ever now and again?
