Connecting a second modem, or indeed using the Samsung STB as a second connection, will only work if you are paying for that second connection, and if that is the case the modem will be supplied and installed by ntl:telewest.

Attempting to connect your own supplied modem will not work and is effectively an attempt at theft of services, which will not be discussed further on this board.

Networking using a router is your correct option.
